Currently, Queensland Ballet receives the least federal funding of all major Australian dance companies and the Queensland Ballet Academy receives no federal funding at all.
As a result, Queensland Ballet is shrinking. This year 27 jobs were lost from our beloved
company, including eight dancers, and dancers' salaries have fallen 6.8% behind CPI since 2020. Multiple Company Artists are now relying on their parents to supplement their income.
All Queensland Ballet is asking for is parity. Please sign the petition.

I’ve used isometrics in rehab settings for years—but it was Car Park Chronicles in 2021 that sparked a performance-focused shift in me. Straps, cuffs… even his car!
🚗💪

Then in 2022, .natera dropped the Isometric Strength Training Course with focused on running-specific isometrics. I wasn’t training runners at the time, but the carryover to other athletes (like the dancers but that’s another post) was clear. 👟🩰

Fast-forward to 2024: enter Sylvia (pictured), an ultra-marathon runner. We started early on in her training with isometric knee and ankle pushes. She struggled with foot, hip, and posture control at first (wish I had a “before” photo!🤦🏼‍♂️). But with consistent work + corrective exercises, she now looks rock solid. ✅

📸 This shot was taken during her final strength session before the 128km Ellery Monster this weekend. I love using isos in race/performance week—intensity stays high without the injury risk of big lifts. 🙌

I was asked recently, “What is your favourite piece of equipment?” 💭

For me, it must be versatile. I want to be able to use it in a multitude of ways and if it provides data, well, it’s a winner in my book.

So, with that being said, my favourite piece of equipment is the ForceDecks from .

we not only use them for testing the dancers’ jump height, power, strength, balance, and asymmetry. We also use it in their training programs. Knowing their maximum efforts from testing, we can have them work at set percentages of that maximum that align with the desired outcome of the session or training block.

This first image is from “Jekyll and Hyde”, my last performance as a Principal Artist with Queensland Ballet. Hard to think it was 20 years ago. I was 35.5 years old and so very fortunate to have finished my performing career in a role that was created for me by Paul Boyd.

I never had the intention of becoming a professional ballet dancer but I am so grateful for having done so. It was a career that allowed me to travel and perform overseas. Meet some of the most wonderful people you could ever wish to and of course, meet and then marry my best friend, Vicky. ❤️

I don’t have many photos from my career, as photographers were only just beginning to use digital cameras by the time I was finishing. I have thrown a few of my favourites from what I have on here.

If you are interested in swiping across to see them, I have written a brief description of each below.

#2 The Prince in “The Little Mermaid”. I was 23 and it was my first Principal role in a full-length ballet. I was dancing with the Bern Ballet (Ballett der Stadttheater Bern) company in Switzerland and Rebecca Yates (pictured) was visiting her partner, Paul DeMason (my then flatmate). Rebecca was a Soloist with the Australian Ballet.

#3 Court of Love, from Jacqui Carroll’s “Carmina Burana” (1994) with Larissa Fletcher (nee Wright) .

#4 Francois Klaus’s “Peer Gynt” (1998) with Kimberly Semple (nee Davis) .

#5 A marketing shot with Angela Trevethan (nee Kenworthy) in 2001. The incredible David Kelly was the photographer. He has the most impeccable timing.

#6&7 “Jekyll and Hyde” (2003) with Rachael Walsh

#8&9 “Jekyll and Hyde” with Simone Webster and my favourite chair.

I hope you enjoyed my trip down memory lane 🤔💭
