Local Martial Artists Shine at NSW Championships A dedicated team of nine students and instructors from Kyokushin International Martial Arts Australia (KIMAA) Taree travelled to Sydney on Sunday, 31 May, to compete in the NSW Kata, Weapons Kata, and Point Sparring Championships. Out of the eight competing students, six returned home with medals. Beyond the podium finishes, the entire team demonstrated impeccable discipline, sportsmanship, and attitude both on and off the mat.
Individual Highlights
Jack Archer: Competing in his very first Kyokushin tournament, Jack focused solely on Kata and showed immense future potential. Jack also recently passed his grading at Southside Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu in Old Bar.
Liam Bowen: Competed hard in both Kata and Point Sparring, delivering a performance that highly impressed both his instructor and parents.
Samantha Kelly: Delivered an outstanding Kata performance to secure 2nd Place.
Talitha Ferguson: Proved to be the dark horse of the tournament, earning 3rd Place in Kata and 3rd Place in Point Sparring.
Jameson Smith: Completed a massive weekend of competition. On Saturday, he placed 2nd in Kata at the Shin-Kyokushin . On Sunday, representing KIMAA, he secured 1st Place in kata on Sunday .
Malihah Azeem: Dominated her divisions by taking out 1st Place in Kata and 1st Place in Point Sparring, proving to be a exciting talent to watch for the future.
Peter Madigan: At 57 years young, Peter out-trained many on the floor, narrowly missing a place in Kata but fighting his way to 2nd Place in Point Sparring.
Sensei Mark Long: Led by example on the mats, capturing 1st Place in Point Sparring and 2nd Place in Kata.
Gratitude and AcknowledgementsThe club extends its congratulations to all competitors from over the state. Win or lose, the tournament was a celebration of effort, participation, and personal growth.

🥋 The Ultimate Family Bond: The Archers Take the Mats at KIMAA Taree Dojo! There is an old saying in the martial arts: "The family that trains together, stays together." On Wednesday the 13th, the Archer family proved exactly why KIMAA Taree Dojo is the perfect place for families to grow stronger, healthier and more connected. Participating in the Kids & Parents Open Day, the Archers stepped onto the brand-new dojo mats to experience the unique spirit of Kyokushin Karate side-by-side. Why Kyokushin is Perfect for FamiliesTraining as a family unit transforms standard exercise into a shared journey of personal break through
:Level Playing Field: On the mats, everyone wears the same gi and starts fresh.
Parents and children face the same challenges, building mutual respect and empathy.
Shared Discipline:
Kyokushin is known as the "Strongest Karate," emphasizing physical endurance and mental grit.
When a family pushes through a tough session together, they build an unbreakable core of shared resilience.
Leading by Example:
Instead of sitting on the sidelines watching their kids, parents get to model dedication, focus and work ethic in real-time.
Pure Quality Time:
In a digital world full of distractions, a combined training session provides an hour of focused, high-energy bonding completely free of screens.
Guided by the exceptional leadership of Sensei Mark Long (3rd Dan), the Open Day was a beautiful reminder that martial arts isn't just about self-defence—it is about building a supportive community and strengthening family ties.
Kudos to the Archer family for setting such an inspiring example on the mats. Osu!

A Meeting of Spirits: Sensei Mark from Kimaa Taree Visits Mokka Ballina In the spirit of Osu, the martial arts community recently witnessed a powerful exchange of knowledge and camaraderie as Sensei Mark from KIMAA Taree traveled north to train at MOKKA Ballina. Hosted by Sensei Blayne, the session was a testament to the shared dedication and respect that defines Kyokushin karate. The atmosphere in the Ballina dojo was focused and intense from the start. The class followed a traditional and rigorous structure: The session began with a structure warm-up, preparing the body and mind for the technical demands ahead.
Kihon, Students and instructors alike moved through fundamental kihon techniques, refining the precision and power that form the bedrock of the style. The training then transitioned into moving techniques, focusing on fluid movement, distance, and timing. The practitioners showcased their discipline through kata, executing the complex sequences of movements with sharp focus and intent. To conclude the high-energy session, the class moved to the bags. This allowed everyone to apply their technical training with full power, finishing the night on a high note of physical endurance. Sensei Mark expressed his deep appreciation for the opportunity to share the mats with another dedicated group of martial artists."I would like to extend a sincere thank you to Sensei Blayne from Mokka Ballina for the warm welcome and the fantastic training session. It is always a privilege to learn and grow a longside fellow karateka. I also want to thank Shihan Jon Ellis for allowing me the opportunity to train at his Dojo at Ballina and for his ongoing support of our martial arts journey. This visit highlights the strong bonds within the Australian Kyokushin community, proving that no matter the distance between dojos, the "Ultimate Truth" remains a shared path.
