Semi final wrap up
A grade – Semi 1 – Green Machine (1) vs Bruce Lang Butcher Tigers (4)
Green Machine won the toss and elected to bowl on a field set to the size of the MCG. Steve George (3) fell early when Cooper Garland rattled his stumps getting Green Machine off to a great start. Mark Atkins (31) steadied the ship for Tigers retiring on 31, just in time to Cooper to claim a caught behind on Michael Healy for a golden duck. Alex Neale went 4, 6, 6 before hauling out to Tom Burley at deep mid wicket. Phil Baker (29) poked and prodded with the remaining batters to end with a 102 total for Green Machine to chase.
Green Machine opened with Corey Wheeler (13) & Kurt Fowles (30) who set a decent platform but Tigers #1 wicket taker Todd McFarlane snared 2 wickets in his first over to swing momentum towards the Tigers. The dangerous duo of Dean Lewin (2) & Tom Burley (1) both hit the ball to the hands of Mick Healy in the outfield. Green Machine needing 56 runs between the final 3 batters. Jonty Green (7), Cooper Garland (7) left Jake Wheeler the impossible task of scoring 42 runs. Wheeler hauled out in the deep again to the hands of Healy to end the innings. Tigers 102 : Green Machine 79
A grade – Semi 2 – Old Bar Tav (2) vs MFD Tradies (3)
Old Bar hosted the Tradies at the Graveyard in Old Bar. Tradies won the toss and elected to swing the willow. Tradies top 4 batters, Todd Sullivan (11), Drew Hanley (9), Kane Allen (7) and Mick Blanch (golden duck) all fell to either Greg Collins or Steve Sansom. Angus Gregory and Cam Thomas both retired with 30 to give Tradies a glimmer of hope. Tradies giving Old Bar 105 to chase down.
Old Bar’s Mr Consistency Mick Whitton opened and put on 31 runs, supported by Greg Collins (15), Steve Sansom (6) and Stu Witchard (18) before Rhys Whitton ended the Tradies season putting on 31 runs to win the game in the 12th over.
B grade Semi 1 – Harro (5) v Swing Valley (8)
Harrington team won the toss and elected to bat. Glen Chapman (33) and Brett Webster (30) both retired with the 3rd biggest total being sundries with the Swing Valley swingers unable to handle the swing bowling 27 sundries. Harro put on 148 for the Sw***ers to chase. Sw***ers innings was one of ups and downs. Ryan Anderson (25) and Cam Woolard (31) got the Sw***ers off to a flying start before Wells brothers Luke & Jai took the wickets of Ian Cameron (1) & Ben Stewart (2) cheaply. Then another high by Jackson Witts hitting and unbeaten 32 followed by another low when Dan Plevey and Oscar Scaines hit 14 consecutive singles when boundaries were needed. Sw***ers ending their maiden season 17 runs short.
B grade Semi 2 – Just Here For The Beer (6) v Brimbin Ballbags (7)
Ballbags won the toss and sent in JHFTB to bat. The Beers had faith in Scott Hatton to open and crack his first retired score of the year but he fell agonisingly short by 3 runs bowled by Will Clarke in the 8th over. Retired scores to Shaun Fuller (30), Nath Fuller (30) and Chris Pearce (35) put on a solid 160 for the Ballbags to chase down. Ballbags sent in Mitch Watson (13) who went bang bang with a couple of 6’s before being clean bowled by Shaun Fuller. Matt Hammond (3) didn’t bother the scorers too much before being bowled by Pearce but this allowed the Bash Brothers Kurt Millikin & Will Clarke to do what they do best and put the ball over the boundary. A 62 run stand between them tightened the Ballbags up and got them right back in the game. Dave Cook wanted in on the action also hitting 34 before retiring leaving Nath Currie & Paul Jeffers to score 7 runs off the final over. Currie got caught on the 4th ball leaving Jeffers to score 5 runs in 2 balls. Jeffers managed to hit a 2 and 1 leaving the Ballbags 2 runs short.
C grade Semi 1 – Coopy Cockroaches (9) v No Bull (12)
I’d love to write a report but the scorecard hasn’t been seen. Apparently Coopy won and advance to the C grade final.
C grade Semi 2 – The Battlers (10) v Chatham Wolves (11)
Battlers took on Wolves at Cundletown oval and batted first. Adam Johnson (29), Matt Kennewell (33) & Tom Riley (34) & Mitch Saad (30) got the Battlers looking at a 200+ run game but had to settle for 164 as the tail enders were wrapped up by the Wolves bowling attack. Wolves opener Sam Ferguson was dismissed for 2 and it looked like certain victory for Battlers early on until Lachie Harry (31) & Toby Allen (35) got Wolves back on track. Unfortunately for the Battlers hitting the pitch was the problem as they bowled 32 sundries, the most in a game this season. Tom Riley, Larry Scavino & Brenton Males all bowling 10 ball overs consecutively which gifted the Wolves a grand final berth. In the end the Wolves accounted for the Battlers total in the 13th over.
