Is this Chinese mini tower worth it?
I've received a few questions regarding this mod to my 2019 KTM500 exc, so I thought I'd share a few brief points and answer some questions:
Where did I buy?
Through AliExpress, was an easy process and took about 2 weeks for delivery
Cost?
Approximately $200 delivered
Quality?
Can't fault as everything worked perfect and survived a 3,000+ km torture test through sand, gravel, corrugations and a couple of crashes.
Ease of fitting?
I'm one of the least skilled guys you'll meet with any tools, and it was pretty easy and everything lined up.
Was it any good?
For me it was exactly what I wanted. It pushed the "dash" forward providing a less cramped feel whilst riding. I was able to fit up my ZumoXT, plus a USB charger and an easy button to kill the power and save the battery.
I expected with only 2 mounting points it would likely move due to the 500s vibrations and may need re adjusting - wrong. Even after crashing on a sand dune and mounting a tree it didn't move.
Screen any good?
It depends what you are after. For me, I just want wind off my chest and top of my shoulders to reduce fatigue, which it does perfectly (I'm 6ft). I prefer to ride with my helmet in free air.
If you want your head and helmet protected from the wind, then I'm not sure if it would work. The tilt is adjustable to deflect the wind higher, so for shorter riders it may deflect above your helmet.
Improvements?
To be honest I'm struggling , especially for the price. Option of a taller screen?
Negatives?
A face only a mother could love.
Overall very impressed and one of best additions to the 500; simple, no fuss, lightweight and effective 👍
