To our Boyne Tannum Community,
We have become aware of comments on social media around the surf club building and would like to share some information for our members, visitors and supporters of TSSLSC.
We do appreciate the fact that this issue has been raised in a respectful and constructive way. We absolutely understand the importance of accessibility and inclusion, and we agree that everyone in our community should have the opportunity to enjoy our club and its facilities.
The club is currently working with Surf Life Saving Queensland and Council to develop a master plan for the future of Tannum Sands Surf Life Saving Club and to ensure the longevity of the club as a valuable community facility. Access and inclusion for all members and visitors will be one of the key priorities considered as part of this planning process. This will allow us to look at the broader needs of the building with consideration given to the requirements of the operational aspects of the club and our community.
It’s also worth noting that Tannum Sands SLSC is proudly volunteer-run. Our committee and volunteers give their time around work, family and other commitments, while also helping keep our beaches safe, often contributing upwards of 40 hours of patrols for each member, each season between September and May. We are fortunate to have a dedicated group of volunteers who work hard to support the club and our community, and we are always grateful for the people who put their hand up to help.
While we are fortunate to have people filling our key operational positions, other important roles, including sponsorship and fundraising, are often vacant. This can place significant pressure on the volunteers who are already contributing substantial amounts of their time to keep the club operating.
We are genuinely encouraged to see members of the community passionate about the future of the club and wanting to see it continue to grow and become more inclusive. Community support is incredibly important, and there are many ways people can contribute to helping make these improvements possible.
If you are interested in being involved, have ideas, or would like to contribute your time, skills, fundraising or sponsorship support, we would love to hear from you. Please contact us at [email protected].
We look forward to working with our Community, Surf Life Saving Queensland and Council to build a strong, sustainable and inclusive future for Tannum Sands SLSC.
