Well it was definitely the best season yet that is for sure, so much went on this year & there where a few surprises along the way….

Congrats to Inverell for taking out the comp truly deserved……….. Back to Back……..Can they get the 3-Peat in 2026 ????

There are a lot of teams that really need to look back on 2025 & work out what went wrong. There can be all the talk in the world on what the outside thinks went wrong but at the end of the day it is up to the club, coach & players to realise it, acknowledge it & fix it….

I would like to give a massive shout out to Hillvue & Easts………. Cracker season & soooo much to build on guys !!!

Now let's look at the 2026 season…

The general consensus around the league is they want a full home & away season……

So I have broken it down on how I think it could happen & we need to remember it is the PL, the best v the best & if you want to play in this comp you need to be ready for some football !!!

Kick Off – 21st of March

Double Header Weekends – Easter we play Saturday & Monday, June Long Weekend we play Saturday & Monday........ Remember we PL not local !!!!

If games, get washed out during the season the following weekend is a double header so that it takes this back & forth between the clubs out & we have it set in stone…

Round 26 – 29th August 2026

Top 5….

Week 1 – 2nd V 3rd - 2nd Hosts………… 4th V 5th – 4th Hosts

Week 2 – Game 1- 1st V Winner of 2nd V 3rd – 1st Hosts (winner hosts GF)………. Game 2- Loser of 2nd V 3rd plays winner of 4th v 5th – 2nd or 3rd hosts

Week 3 – Winner game 1 to GF, Loser Game 1 V Winner Game 2

Week 4 – GF 26th of September

Now the controversial one I feel – 1 division……. First Grade Only……. Hear me out…

Reserve Grade re-named 2nd grade & it is played at 1pm on the Saturday but it a “local” comp only….

First Grade get to sign 20 players at the start of the season & on game day they assign 16 players to their squad of that 20 & the other 4 can play local 2nd grade……… There would be rules around being able to source from 2nd or 3rd grade if the players start to fall off….

Not only will you now boost your local comp you will make the PL the strongest it could be as you will not have this player issue of players playing 2 games on a Saturday…..it will officially be THE BEST V THE BEST !!!

And here is the kicker…………. Opens clubs that field both men’s PL & women’s PL team the opportunity to play Women’s PL at 1pm & Men’s PL at 3pm on the same field & you get FULL club days……… I am sure the draws can be accommodated for this 😊……….

Anyways that is my 50c worth………Still happy with 1st & ressies.....

Bring on the offseason & let the recruitment drives begin.. Cause we all know it has already started !!!!

Northen Inland Premier League – Round 18 Preview
From Inside The 18 Yard Box !!

Only 2 games played last week for round 17 but a staggering 18 goals were scored !!!

The run home is upon us & boy it has excitement all over it does it not !!!

3 weekends, 16 days in total from 16th till 31st & a hell of a lot football to be played !!!

Westside, Namoi & TFC need to cram 6 games in during this period, those 3 have the worst run home that is for sure…..

There are few battles underway in both grades so the last thing we want is a Points Per Game end of the season, so good on NNSWF for throwing the latest draw out there to be able to end the season the way it should be……….. in thrilling fashion !!!!

Yes, I know some teams have a crazy schedule but at the end of the day this is why we play PL & not local comp right………. !!!

This week my throw up some interesting results as you have teams that have not played since 19th of July & during that time maybe trained on a pitch twice. So you need to ask yourself how “ready” those teams are….

Anyways the weather has lifted & for the first time in 4 weeks it looks like we will get a full round of football in !!!!

Match of The Round – Inverell V East Armidale

Both of these teams have Sunday games to think about as well & the teams they play Sunday are fighting for finals football in the south so they alone will be tough games, so this game carries an extra importance. 1st V 2nd in the North & by the end of the weekend we could have a few scenarios being played out to close out the seasons for these 2….

1st gets you a week off & a shot at playing in the game that could mean you host the GF…

2nd gets you a home final….

And with Westside only 1 point behind Easts with a game in hand it is a little extra pressure on them this weekend….
They get to travel to lions den Saturday & if they are not on their game this one could get messy…

For Inverell well they have definitely found their MOJO & look very very dangerous !!!

This one is another of those ones that could blow out, but I think Easts will put up a great challenger. I still have Inverell for the win tho 3-2 !!!

South Armidale V Norths

South Armidale need to put a run together & put it together now if they want any chance of finals football. By this time next week these guys will know if they have a shot or not you would think.

For Norths I have not much to say but at the end of the day this team does not want to end the season pointless…

I do have South Armidale here tho 3-0 !!!

Hillvue V Moore Creek

The Goats where lucky enough to play last weekend & boy did they run wild, then they followed that up with a midweek catch up win. It looks like only the Goats can stop the Goats from that minor premiership spot. I can’t see that happening TBH they are on the mission they have the team & they have the confidence..................... & of course Namoi & TFC want a Goats win here !!!

Hillvue need to win this game or at least grab a point, they are 1 point behind 3rd placed Namoi but have played 1 extra game. They need to go on one of those Hillvue runs they went on earlier to finish out the season.

Can’t go past the Goats here, Goats 4-0 !!!

DK V Westside

With DK season over their focus is destroying other hopes & at the same time planning for 2026. Had a nice win midweek & will give them confidence going into this one…

While it is not a must win for Westside a win here goes a long way to helping them secure that top 3 spot, they got touched up last weekend so there will be a fire I the belly that is for sure…

I am thinking DK here tho, they would love nothing more than putting a dent in Westside’s finals run 3-2 !!!

Namoi V South United

A win that is what Namoi must achieve, they have TFC & Hillvue breathing down their neck & they have to face the top 3 teams in the comp as part of their season close out. The rumour around town was they had a few injuries so let’s hope the extra time off has allowed for those players to heal up & be able to come back !!!

For South United it all about putting dents in teams finals hopes & I know TFC & Hillvue are wanting an upset here !!!

This could go either way, Namoi full team you would say comfortable win, but with the injury rumours you never know…. Still have Namoi here 2-1 !!!

TFC V Northies

TFC are in the same position as Hillvue & Namoi……….. MUST WIN…….. A little injury crisis of their own, but hey that is football you must adapt !!

Northies are in the same boat as South United, putting dents in finals hopes & yes both Hillvue & Naomi want a Northies win here !!

This is also the Dan Haslam Cup Game, so this game has an even bigger meaning than finals football hopes !!!!

Northen Inland Premier League – Round 16 Preview

The only thing that happened last weekend was the spoon was decided !!!

On another note, will we get round 16 in, I don’t like the chances so more catch up games it will be, but anyways here we go…

Match of The Round – Westside V East Armidale

This game is massive for both sides….

While I am confident that both these teams are playing finals football this year (barring either of them having a meltdown!!) there is a massive difference between finishing 1st 2nd or 3rd…… 1st – 2 chances, 2nd – Home filed final, 3rd- Traveling to Tamworth for the first week of finals…

So, when you think about all of that it is Easts that have the most pressure in this game as Westside sit 1 point behind them & they have 2 games in hand, so a win here for Easts is vital in that aspect. We know on their day Easts can match it with the best in the business & they will need to have one of those days this weekend if they are to hold out a strong finishing Westside…

For Westside while the win here is not a must a 1-point difference has a different feel than a 4-point difference when you are getting down to the business end of the season. So, anything short of a draw here may just come back to bite then later in the season.

I do think that Westside will jag this one, 3-2 !!!

Norths V Inverell

Nothing to say here apart from this one could be massacre, I really hope Norths make Inverell work for it, but I just can’t see that happening !!

Inverell to win but not predicting a score line !!!

South United V Moore Creek

Souths spurred on by their avoidance of the spoon (I have called the spoon race early) will have an extra step in their walk this weekend & they will need it. Their job to finish out the year is simple, make it hard for the teams fighting for finals football & start building for 2026 !!!

Not much to say really for the Goats, they need to win, they have to win & let’s face it…… we all would have money on them to win this one with ease. They may be without their superstar goal scorer but that won’t stop them !!

This could get nasty, but I will say Goats 4-0 !!!

South Armidale V DK

With DK looking to 2026 from now on they have the chance to “officially” make South Armidale look towards 2026 as well this weekend.

South Armidale need a miracle to make finals football (but stranger things have happened) & anything short of a win here & next week we can officially say we have the top 3 for the north sorted….

This game will be tight, I cant pick it……… 2-2 draw !!!

Northies V OVA

The last time these 2 sides met OVA put on a clinch….

While Northies showed a spirted performance against Hillvue last game out this one will need to be more than a spirted performance. They may be looking to 2026 now, but that does not mean they can’t put a dent in a few teams run home to finals…

What can you possibly say about OVA that we don’t already know, they will be out to win this & keep the pressure on the Goats…

A game that could just be season defining for both teams….

3rd & 4th on the ladder respectively in the south !!!

Both have injury issues it would seem…..

Both need to win…….

Equals – HUGE Game

Namoi just got past North Armidale & then where handed a 3-1 loss to Westside the week after & if you look at the team sheets you will see they are doing it tough right now. Hopefully for the run home they can have their players back to have a crack at the top 3 & finals football….

TFC the message stays the same, WIN plain & simple. TFC have won their last 2 games so that has allowed them to close the gap that was there a few weeks ago, so this game is as important as ever…

A Namoi win – they go 4 points clear

A TFC win – they go 2 points above Namoi

A Draw – is OK but no one wants a draw !!!

At the end of this game 3rd, 4th & 5th in the south will be on equal games played for the first time in a long time, so the points tally after this weekend will show all 3 of these teams what they need to do for the run home…

Expect both teams to throw everything they can at each other this weekend…..

Northen Inland Premier League – Round 14 Second Half Preview

Round 15………Making it an exciting last 5 rounds !!!

OVA………..Broke the streak of the Goats !!

Hillvue……..Did it tough against 10 men !!!

Namoi……Is their injury toll just to much !!!

Easts………..Keeping the pressure on !!!

5 official rounds to go, let’s see what each of the conferences have shall we !!!

Norths & DK are out of finals football with South Armidale the only other team that “MAY” be able to sneak into the top 3. The current Top 3 is on point tho, Inverell 22 points with 6 games to go, Easts 21 points with 5 games to go & Westside 21 points with 7 games to go this is going to be one hell of a run home & who will jag top spot !!!

Souths gone weeks ago & now Northies are out of finals football, for Northies they are 9 points from 3rd with 5 games to go. Now stranger things have happened, but they will need a miracle. It is like we have 2 stories playing out in front of our eyes in the south. Story 1 – Can the Goats hold on to top spot or will OVA pip them at the post. They have a very similar run home, Hillvue, Namoi, Northies & South United they each play as well as their catch up games who are against different opponents. Story 2 – The race for 3rd, Namoi 21 points with 6 games to go, TFC 20 points with 6 games to go & Hillvue 20 points with 5 games to go, the next 3 weekends are massive for these 3 teams, any little slip up will open the door for the other !!!

Match of The Round – Moore Creek V Westside

This game is HUGE for both teams….

For Westside this shows them where they are at this game, how they will fair come finals time !!!

For Goats it is a makeup game against OVA (even tho OVA play Sunday & they will win that with ease), so a win here gives them breathing space going into their last 5 games…

Westside did not play their round 15 game last weekend, but they did face Namoi & came away with the win there. They are out of the Super League, so their only thought process is on the NIPL now & that makes it easy for them to focus. The Goats will need to contain Aiden Webster, he is Westside goals scoring machine…….. can they contain the young man !!!

For the Goats this is the PERFECT game for them after last weeks loss, coming up against an inform team & you have the disappointment of last weekend still fresh in your mind it just has this way of making you extra motivated & taking you to the next level. Last week showed that even tho they lost & have lost their goal scoring machine (as I heard on the grape vine) there are others no this team that will step up when needed & they will need to fire again this weekend !!!

I have to stick with the Goats here they are too good a team to lose 2 in a row, 3-2 !!!

Inverell V Northies

You could go into detail here all day about Inverell but at the end of the day they need to win this one to maintain top spot, a class team that even tho they had their struggles early class always finds a way to come out !!!

I have called it for Northies they are just here now to make it hard for the teams either trying to get into finals or trying to secure top spot. It is not next season for them & the building starts now….

Half Round 14……… Hard to Judge !!!

OVA………..Still won’t stop scoring goals !!!

DK……….. It is mathematical now !!!

Goats…… TOP DOG !!!

We are in the home stretch now it is all about looking at the table seeing where you’re at & doing the calculations to see what you need to do to be playing Finals this year.

In the North “technically” as of this weekend only Norths United are gone but for South Armidale & DK there is still that hope there, that mathematical chance if results go your way. Therefore, this weekend is HUGE for the North !!!

In the South it is safe to safe both the Goats & OVA are shoe in for finals football & South United are gone. Namoi, Hillvue & TFC are separated by 4 points with Hillvue having played 1 extra game. For Northies this weekend I feel is a win they still have that “chance” a loss or draw & I am calling it, it is all over for them. Again, HUGE weekend for the South !!

Match of The Round – Moore Creek V OVA

This is the minor premiership right here for the Goats !!!!

Goats win – Minor Premiership Sealed………. In my opinion !!!

OVA win – They will still need the Goats to lose a few but it will definitely put the pressure on….. When you are looking over your shoulder it can play on your mind !!!!

These guys only played each other a few weeks ago but, in that time, they are both…

Undefeated, scoring goals for fun & conceding basically nothing. So, they are both coming into this one is the best form you could possibly be in…..

This game right here is battle of the defence & which one will break. Nothing more needs to be said this is the game right here, whoever can contain the other strikers the best wins this game…
The defence is what is going to make this interesting, cause if you don’t show up this weekend this could blow out & now that would be sight !!!

Easts rise up the ladder continues, they now sit 2nd in the North but have played 2 more games than Westside, so they will need to keep winning to hold that spot down…

Norths are just playing out the rest of the season I hope that next year they can build up again…

DK V Inverell

For DK it is mathematical now 8 points behind Easts who have played 1 less game than them, so anything short of win here & they are looking to next season I believe. Which would be a shame cause I am not alone here in saying that these guys have been one of the toughest teams to break down this year.

Inverell boosted by their strong showing in the Super League & securing that spot in the next stage, they can now shift their focus to the NIPL & look at retaining that title.

Northies V Hillvue

There is sooooo much going on with this game…

On one hand you have Northies fighting for life & on the other you have Hillvue not wanting to let 3rd place move further away.
For Northies it is simple, MUST WIN no beating around the bush here they need to find that spark they need to find that spark they had at the start of the season & what better time to bring it back when you are fighting like this !!

For Hillvue the streak may be over but not many teams have faced OVA & come away with the W this year. It is a chance to look at yourself & make the adjustments needed to get better to close out the season strong in their big push for finals football !!

A draw is cool for Hillvue but not Northies, I still think a draw tho 2-2 !!

TFC V South United

This one, this one just has that extra spice & we all know why 😊

Souths have nothing to play in their run home expect pride & the joy of playing football & that is scary for the opposition. When a team is free spirited & just out that playing in that stye it will cause an upset or 2…….. Will that happen this weekend !!!

For TFC they need to win plan & simple, they want finals football like all teams do & while destiny is not in their own hands wining out from here will most certainly give them a great chance. They have the team to do it, it is just a matter of can they do it when the pressure in on…… Rumour has it that this will be TFC’s Mr everywhere man Semi’s last game for TFC this year unless they make finals !!!

Westside V Namoi – Round 8 Catch Up

Westside may be out of the Super League but now they can focus on the NIPL & that may be trouble for teams they are yet to play. When you have 2 comps to think about it plays on your mind a bit but now they free of that I can only see them going up from here.

Namoi on the road again this week & we know last week they not of had a full squad, I feel this week may be the same but who knows. They are sitting third in the South again so they will be looking at holding that spot down to close out the season. Destiny is in their own hands, they win out from here they finish 3rd !!!

I don’t want to tip a winner here, as I think a draw for both teams is all they need this weekend 2-2 !!

Round 13……… The south gets tighter !!!

OVA………..Won’t stop scoring goals !!!

Inverell………. Showed the North they are still the top dog !!

Hillvue………Move to 3rd in the South !!!

Northies……….Close to officially gone !!!

Now this weekend is very interesting, you have 3 official games taking place for round 14….

There is also a round 3 catch up game…

So lets do a half round review shall we !!!

Match of The Round – Hillvue V OVA

You just can’t go past this one can you !!!

Hillvue on a 7-game unbeaten run & 6 of those have been wins !!!
OVA have scored a staggering 18 goals in their last 3 games to now boast the 2nd biggest GF this season so far & they also have the 2nd best defensive record to boot !!!

Unlike years gone by Hillvue this year have been able to secure the wins in those tight games & that is the big difference. It is amazing how something that seems simple is actually the hardest thing to do in football sometimes, but when it pays off it pays off in fashion & Hillvue are the testament to that. It is NOT easy to do this yet these guys keep doing it week in & week out & I for one love it…….. Really makes every game they are apart of just that little bit more exciting !!!

OVA, it was like that loss to the Goats really lit the fire, 3 games unbeaten in row & they seem to just be doing it style…..
This game is another of those 2nd V 3rd in the Southern Conference & we all saw how the last one turned out, so hopefully Hillvue come into this ready for a battle !!!

For Hillvue this game means so much more than getting 3 points, it is a chance to show the competition that the last 7 weeks have not just been a “yeah but they have not played the top 2 from the southern conference in that run” thing & those guys are the bench mark….

The best part is (well let’s not talk about the draw again lol) these 2 have not actually played against each other yet this season so both are going into the unknown & that is what makes it even more exciting….

If you have nothing to do Saturday, get on down & have a watch of this one !!!!

I think this will be tight, OVA 2-1 !!

Norths V Namoi

There were a few rumours going around last week as to why Namoi forfeited their match to the Goats, but at the end of the day it must have been a hard choice to make & they would have had their reasons….

This game is the perfect come back game I guess, playing the team that is last on the table you would expect nothing short of a Namoi win here….

Going to be conservative here as not to sure what type of a squad will turn up, Namoi 2-1 !!!

DK V Easts

This is MUST WIN territory now for DK, anything short of win here & they can kiss goodbye finals football I believe. 2nd to 5th is tight in the north but this game, this game defines DK’s season I believe…

Easts I just can’t predict them & it would seem no one can. They seem to have the ability to keep pace with the leaders but drop points against when they should be picking them up against, they did dismantle South Armidale mid-week tho. This is not a must win game for them, but they need to treat it as such, or they may just see their season slip away.

On paper & on form this should be an Easts win, but going for a DK upset 2-1 !!

Inverell V Northies, Goats V Westside & South Armidale V TFC to be played on the 26th of July

South Armidale V Moore Creek – Round 3 Catch Up

This one, this one I am not to sure about !!!

If South Armidale can field their strongest 11, I am pretty sure they will give the goats a run for their money & make them work for it. If they can’t field their strongest 11, I think it will be a demolition job. History is showing that Jake McCann is the X factor, when he plays they are usually wins or draws, when he does not play they are mostly losses. He was missing mid-week & they got touched up will he be there this weekend !!!!

I have a Goats win regardless in this one, cause lets face it, these guys are just too good week in week out & they have sooooo much fire power along with the best defence I the comp….

My head is telling me a huge win here for the Goats but I want South Armidale field their best 11 to make them work for it, as that is the types of games the Goats need, those close ones, it just sits differently with you & makes you become better as a player & squad…….so going Goats 2-0 !!

Match of The Round – Hillvue V South Armidale

The 2 in form teams that are not the Goats & OVA go head-to-head this weekend I what is to be a great match up…

Hillvue – Unbeaten in 6

South Armidale – Finding form at the right time

This match up does prove to be pivotal i believe as both sides are siting 4th in their respective conferences so dropping points here could hurt them in the run home..

Both teams have the same GD, minus 3 so it all is adding up to cracker of contest & one that will really test both teams….

The most interesting part is, I don’t think anyone would have predicted this. Predicted that these 2 teams would be fighting it out for finals football & that is what has made the 2025 NIPL season so interesting…..

This game will have an attack minded flow to it, it will be shoot out if they both play how they have played the last few weeks this weekend & that makes it hard to predict….

Going high scoring here 4-4 draw !!

Moore Creek V Namoi

This would have been match of the round but if I am reading the draw right the Goats have won this one via forfeit….

There must be some issues with Namoi, hope it all gets better soon for them…

Westside V DK

This game is super interesting…..

Westside are not as dangerous as they were last year….

DK while I believe they are great side, last year they where the guys grinding out wins 1 & 2 nil, this year it the other way around they are losing those battles..

What better way then for both teams to hit the reset button & go for gold in the run home. I don’t want to say this is make or break for either team but it is very close !!!!

DK for the upset 2-1 !!

OVA V South Tamworth

OVA just keep getting stronger, they were made to work last week against TFC, so that is a great sign for them it shows they are patient & they are happy to wait for their opportunity….

Souths see never underestimate a bus trip, a 2-1 loss to Namoi is a great result I feel it gives them something to build on. I do fear for them this weekend tho, OVA are deadly up front, relentless even this could be a long day at the office !!!

I am tipping OVA here 5-1 !!!

Easts V Inverell

Another of those games that when the season started, I would said easy win here for Inverell but not right now…

Easts are one of those teams that at home just get the job done or are able to hold the 2 best teams on the comp to draws. That says all you need to know about them. The main key here is playing the full 90 with 11 men, even tho they seem to play better with 10 men…….. maybe that is the key !!

Inverell on the road again (that is a lot of travel all at once) & it must be running thin & talking its toll. That aside they know what they need to do & also maybe not let Easts go to 10 men cause they will play better with 10, but I think they may just jag this one !!!

Inverell 2-1 here !!

What a time for these 2 teams to meet…..

One thing is for sure, when these 2 teams meet it is never one sided it always seems to go the distance & we expect that this weekend….

For the first time all season last weekend TFC where unable to find the back of the net…

Northies while scoring goals has not been a problem, keeping them out has been their biggest issue….

This is how important this game is for both teams this weekend & why I feel they won't settle for a draw….

7 points separate 3rd to 6th in the southern conference….

A Northies loss I feel puts them in that mathematical chance of making the top 3…

A TFC loss means it is now out fo your control & you rely on others to help you out…

But on a side note HUGE shout out to Northies & TFC for this weekend. Prior to the season kicking off Northies & TFC came up with an idea to get men’s & women’s playing side by side this year in a game & they made it happen. If you are free this weekend while playing each other, get on down & you watch both the men’s & ladies at the same time while supporting a good cause 😊
