A new feature on this page is a "Did You Know" feature. Today's is about White Hairs.

Some of you may have experienced the arrival of White Hairs, some may have bought a horse that came with them and other's might have just heard about them but not really know what they are.

As a horse owner, the arrival of White Hairs is a clear indication that you need to get your saddle fit checked as soon as possible. They develop due to a cut off of circulation to the cells within the hair follicle that are responsible for pigmentation, therefore causing them to revert to their original colour, white. Sometimes they may take a little while to appear due to changes of season and coat, but if caught early enough, there is a chance that they might change back.

White hairs can be caused on any part of the body from injuries, ill fitting rugs or just general genetic make up, but if you find some in the area of your saddle, it is highly recommended that you get this investigated.
