For generations, Tamworth’s pools have been part of local life.
The Tamworth Olympic Pool was built in 1936 and opened in 1937. Tamworth South and West Pool opened in 1968. These facilities have hosted school carnivals, swimming lessons, family days out, squad training, summer memories and countless first laps.
We should be proud of that history. But we also need to be honest about the future. Our pools are ageing, community needs have changed, and Tamworth needs access to safe, inclusive, year-round aquatic facilities that support health, wellbeing, sport, water safety and connection.
A new Aquatic Centre is about more than replacing old infrastructure. It is about planning for the next generation of swimmers, families, athletes, schools, clubs and community members across our region.
The State Government may have said no to any additional funding under the existing Centre of Excellence Fund at this time, but we are still optimistic that we can secure the funds we need to get a facility that meets the needs of our community.
Let’s honour the role our pools have played by planning for what comes next.
