Ok, we’ve been very slack with our pre race updates. But we’ve all been very busy, one way or the other. Even the retired guys. Apparently.

Anyway, we’re here today at Queensland Raceway for the 2026 Clippy Cup. Chief Engineer Alistair has dusted off the BMW 135 ( yes the faithful silver 325 is still not fixed), added oil and air, and here we are.

4 hours down, we’re back in 10th, after an unscheduled stop to fix a faulty brake line. But there’s 8 hours to go so anything is possible.

And there’s only one other car in our class so a trophy looks very possible no matter where come.

Day 3 at Motor Events Racing Melonaid 2025 is underway. Alistair is in the car for the first run and he’s already set the fastest lap of the day. Twice. Of course.

8 hours today so we will cycle through the 4 of us with an hour run (then fuel of course), then repeat.

Day 2 at Motor Events Racing Melonaid 2025 is just about done, with two hours to go. Chief Engineer Alistair and his willing but somewhat technically challenged apprentice Gerard changed the clutch this morning in a marathon 5 hour session at a local workshop. The car got back on track a bit before 2 pm and is currently circulating: we are doing some seriously fast times, already setting the fastest lap of the day. We are still only on page 3 of the timing screens so we have a long way to go!

This one won’t see us add to the trophy shelf at Wedmaiers Garage And Automotive Gas Conversions so we will just go out and have a bit of fun.

Tomorrow is 8 hours on the small track so there are still laps to be gained!

Race day at Shell V-Power Motorsport Park, and disaster strikes.

After a delayed start, we did 2 laps before the clutch gave up. Apparently they are a bit important.

Currently sourcing a replacement from Adelaide and a workshop to change it over tonight!

Shell V-Power Motorsport Park here we come!

Double Decker Racing is about to set off for our last Motor Events Racing race of the year starting Thursday, at this fabulous circuit at Tailem Bend South Australia. We love this race and the track, as we race on three different circuit layouts over three days, including the 7.7 km GT circuit (the longest circuit in Australia).

As rhe trusty silver BMW 325 is still out of action following its unfortunate altercation with a Lakeside wall earlier this year, we are taking our backup car, the amazing BMW 135. This car is going to love stretching its legs down the long straights and around the sweeping corners at The Bend.

Chief Engineer Alistair Dowdle and road crew extraordinaire Danny Keating (DK2) are trailing the car down, while the rest of us and road crew chief, catering manager and stand in sommelier Dave Kelly (DK1) will fly down in style.

This year, key driver and our usual sommelier Brian will not be with us as he continues his recovery at home from some major surgery. We will miss him and look forward to his return to the track next year.

Double Decker Racing has made the difficult decision to withdraw from the Morgan Park Night Fever event.

Three of our drivers are unavailable for one reason or another, so sadly we will not be there.

This is an event we have always enjoyed so missing it is a blow. But we will return!

Until next time!

Close but no cigar; finished 5th on the road and 1st in class. The cars Achilles’ heel is its thirst for fuel, so our extra stops meant we’d never make up the laps that went missing in the first hour with a faulty transponder reading.

But the different brake pads we ran this time made it the whole way, so one problem solved.

We are learning more about this car, with every race we run. And the more we learn, the more we like! The car is an absolute beauty – stunningly quick, amazing acceleration and fantastic handling. Chief engineer Alistair has it absolutely singing at the moment and we are loving driving it. It’s an amazing feeling to put your foot down and feel the turbos kick in! Quite a long way from where we started in 2017 with a little Ford Laser with about 80 hp.

Thanks to Alistair again for preparing an immaculate vehicle. Once again we just went around and around for 12 hours without any incidents or issues. We could not do it without you (obviously, because the rest of us can barely hold a spanner).

Onwards to the next race at Morgan Park in September.

Chilly start to the day at Willowbank this morning. Cars are now on track, after a 10 am start. Another 11 plus hours to go!

Gerard is at the wheel having his first drive of the new car. Unfortunately some transponder reading issues are causing some grief but hopefully will be sorted at the pit stop.

This Saturday sees us take the new BMW 135 out to Queensland Raceway for a 12 hour spin around the paper clip at the Motor Events Racing Clippy Cup, starting at 10 am and finishing under lights. We’re hoping for a trouble free run, maybe with better fuel economy this time.
