This is hard to know so you want to appeal to BOTH audiences.

One way to do this is by using consistent formatting - using clear employment history, easy to scan bullet point language and consistent headings.

You want the employer to save your resume in their database. This encourages them to call you now or even later when they have an opening you might be interested in.

P.S. One tip is if you CAN, submit your resume in two formats, send both PDF and MS Word. This suits both audiences.

Is it necessary to customise every cover letter?

SO GLAD YOU ASKED THAT!!

The short answer is YES. Studies show that it does improve your chances of getting interviews.

Unless the job ad states ‘no cover letter required’, take advantage of this useful tool to explain things that your resume cannot!

Oh and a recent study done by SEEK found that 83% of hirers find cover letters useful.

I don't know about you, but I have always struggled with posting content on my social media channels.

I struggle with ideas, or just taking the time to sit down and write a post.

But one of the ideas I had recently, was starting a "Dear Robin" campaign, where I post questions I get from people, and then share my answers.

I've already wasted a couple of weeks trying to think of a more clever name for this new campaign, because "Dear Robin" seems so boring!

So I'm welcome to anyone's ideas on a better name but if I don't receive any, I'm going to just START. 😉

P.S. I received this email today from LinkedIn for being a Community Top Voice for Resume Writing, which made me super happy.

P.S.S. I haven't told many people this but years ago I received feedback from a boss that my writing skills were lacking. It's taken me awhile to reject that feedback.

My heart is full. This gorgeous lady approached me end of last year for career help.

She explained she had moved from Ghana to Australia over 10 years ago but sadly was not able to find work in her specialist field of Environmental Management and Sustainability.

I helped her completely redo her resume.

Well a couple of days ago I ran into her at a migrant networking function and she told me she starts her new Environmental Project Officer job in TWO WEEKS.

Not only that, it is the same job she loved doing back home providing advice and research in the community.

I couldn’t help myself. I literally jumped up and down squealing with excitement for her.

Congratulations Estie. You did it. 🙌🏻
