Sydney Uni Sportsman & Sportswoman of the Year 🏆🦁💙💛
Last night at the 2025 Sports Awards Dinner, we recognised two athletes whose achievements this year were nothing short of exceptional.
🏐 Jason Welmer
Jason delivered an outstanding 2025 on both the national and international stage.
On debut for the NSW Opens, he helped secure a 2nd place finish at the AMMNA Nationals,earning selection in the Australian Mixed team 🇦🇺
He then played a key role in Australia’s 3–0 tour sweep over England, further cementing his place at the elite level.
His progression has continued, with selection in the Australian Indoor Men’s team set to tour South Africa later this year.
At Sydney Uni, Jason’s performances were equally impressive, achieving Teal Cup success, earning MVP honours with the Mountain Leopards Mixed team, and delivering strong results across both men’s and mixed competitions 🏆
🏉 Emily Chancellor
Emily’s 2025 stands as one of the most dominant seasons in Australian rugby.
Leading the the NSW Waratahs through an undefeated Super W campaign, culminating in a championship victory and the club’s 7th title 🏆
Internationally, Emily was appointed Vice Captain of the Wallaroos, playing all 11 Tests across the year and competing at her second Rugby World Cup 🇦🇺
Where she went on to become the 19th captain of the Wallaroos, leading Australia in multiple Tests on the world stage.
A 34-cap Wallaroo and RUPA Leadership Award finalist, Emily’s season reflects elite performance, consistency, and leadership.
