Plenty of positives from a mixed day at One Raceway.

The day started really well, putting the #17 BMW P10 outright and P4 in class in qualifying with a 1:09.818. I’ve traditionally found qualifying challenging, so putting the car inside the top ten first time out was something I was pretty happy with, especially as the rear of the car was proving difficult to lean on.

Race 1 started with a great launch and I made up several positions early. As the race went on, though, the loose rear started costing me confidence, particularly through Turn 6. I focused on bringing it home and finished P11 outright and P4 in class, with a best lap of 1:09.284.

Before Race 2 we lowered the tyre pressures and made the rear Bilstein dampers firmer. The difference was immediate. The car felt much more settled and I could finally lean on it properly. Unfortunately, while working through traffic late in the race, I was hit at the Fish Hook, shattering the front-left wheel and causing an instant puncture. That meant a DNF just as the car was starting to feel really good.

After replacing the wheel, Race 3 became all about recovery. Starting P24, I worked my way through to P15, gaining nine places while trying to stay out of trouble and be selective about where I made passes.

The biggest milestone from the day was earning my third Motorsport Australia licence signature, which means I’m now eligible to apply for my full National Circuit licence.

That licence is important because it opens the door to events like the Bathurst 6 Hour. Racing at Bathurst remains a major goal of mine, and being in a position to pursue an opportunity there in 2027 would be pretty special.

A huge thank you to my amazing wife Shirley Rummler, who crewed for me all day. Keeping me fed and hydrated, helping on the radio, getting me organised for the grid and even reminding me to calm down after Race 2. I couldn’t do this without her.

Not the perfect weekend, but top-ten qualifying pace, a much better setup direction, nine places gained in the final race and the licence requirement completed gives me plenty to take away from it.

10th outright, 4th in class for qualifying, pushed hard found the limit, tuned her up for race 1

Back at One Raceway this Saturday for Round 6 of the MRA Series with Oztrack SuperTT.

It’s going to be a cold start, but I’m looking forward to getting car #17 back on track.

Qualifying: 10:00am
Races: 11:40am, 1:56pm and 3:55pm

Hopefully we can put together a solid day. 🏁

Thanks CC Tyres for helping strip the race tyres off the rims and spotting these cracks before they became a much bigger problem. 😬

Definitely not something we wanted to discover out on track.

Had a drive in Round 5 of the MRA Series at Sydney Motorsport Park, running the Gardner circuit with the Oztrack Super TT field.

Quiet, steady day for car #17:

Qualifying: P19 – 1:49.4
Race 1: P16, 5th in class
Race 2: P15, 5th in class
Race 3: P11, 5th in class – 1:48.9

A little quicker every session, three finishes from three starts and the 328i didn't miss a beat.

The Sydney 300 gave Project E36 Racing a real boost, both on track and online. 🚀

These might not be huge numbers for bigger teams, but for us, they’re massive.

Over the last 90 days, our content has reached 6,545+ social views, with our top Sydney 300 post reaching 1,410 views.

Just like our Sydney 300 result, it feels like a big step forward for our little grassroots team.

Thought I’d try something different for the Sydney 300 wrap-up.

Instead of another photo post, I turned the Natsoft lap chart into an animated race trace showing our progression across the full race.

We qualified 33rd, but after the formation lap I couldn’t find my grid spot and ended up parking at P41.

From there, I climbed to P9 in the opening stint before the stop reset us to P19, then David ran a clean second stint to bring it home P11 outright and 1st in Class D.

Pretty cool seeing the race play out this way. The safety cars, the pit stop, the recovery, and the class win all tell a better story when you can actually watch the line move.
