UNIBUDS at a Glance

The University of New South Wales Buddhist Society (UNIBUDS) was the first Buddhist organisation on campus in Australia; established in 1981. Venerable Tsang Hui from Hwa Tsang Monastery and Venerable Chao Khun Samai from Wat Pa Buddharangsee are currently the patrons of UNIBUDS, and have been since the formation period. UNIBUDS is a non-sectarian Buddhist society and thus it

supports all Buddhism schools and traditions e.g.: Theravada, Mahayana, Tibetan and so on. Over the years, UNIBUDS has grown and flourished to be the largest student Buddhist society on campus in Australia. The activities and events held during a year period include regular English and Chinese dhamma talks, weekly sports sessions, monthly meditation workshops, meditation retreats, social functions and lots more. UNIBUDS always maintains a harmonious relationship among members within the society and outside the society with other Buddhist societies in NSW. UNIBUDS website:

How did your Flex week go? Hope you all enjoy the little break by catching up with friends or with your studies, and are well-prepared for the final assignments/exams. Things will be more stressful from now on, but UNIBUDS also has lots of activities for you to balance it out and have fun as well. 🥳

Our Tuesday Meditation Session will explore "Drop Your Worries and Desires" 🧘💙. Through guided meditation, we'll practise letting go of unnecessary mental burdens, calming the mind, and creating space for greater peace and clarity. Sometimes the best way to move forward is to simply pause and release what we've been holding onto.

In this week's Chinese Dhamma Talk, we'll be discussing the Three Poisons (Greed, Hatred and Delusion) ☸️—the central theme of this year's Bodhi Nite. Together, we'll explore how these three unwholesome states influence our thoughts and actions, why they are considered the root of suffering in Buddhism, and how recognising them is the first step towards cultivating wisdom and compassion.

Our English Dhamma Talk will focus on "Term 2 Review/Q&A Session" 🌱. We are delighted to welcome our special guest, Venerable Chao Khun Dhammavajirarangsee, who will be on hand to answer questions and offer expert guidance to anyone interested in Buddhism. I am sure that everyone will gain further inspiration and insights into spiritual practice from this EDT.😇

Whether you're looking for a peaceful study break or simply hoping to meet some friendly faces, everyone is welcome 😘 Bring a friend, come with an open mind, and enjoy an evening of reflection and discussion.

We can't wait to SEE YOU THERE! 🪷✨

Hope everyone is having a great week so far! As uni life continues to get busier, don’t forget to take some time to pause and recharge with yourself while working on your assessment✨

This week’s Meditation Session will explore Powerful Meditation on the 7 Chakras: Balance and Heal Your Energy Centres 🧘‍♀️🌈. Through this practice, we’ll focus on cultivating awareness, relaxation, and balance while exploring how meditation can support our overall well-being.

In our Chinese Dhamma Talk, we’ll be discussing Merit, Wisdom and Intention 🪷. We’ll explore the difference between having blessings and achieving true liberation, how intention shapes our practice, why having good fortune does not always guarantee happiness, and why wisdom plays such an important role on the Buddhist path.

Our English Dhamma Talk will dive into Skillful Means (Upaya) 🌱✨ Exploring what Upaya means in Buddhism, how it is used appropriately, and how adapting our approach with wisdom and compassion can help us respond to different situations in life.

Also, a reminder that our Monastery Visit is happening this Saturday (4 July) 🏞️🥰! It’s a wonderful opportunity to step away from the busy city, experience a peaceful environment, and learn more about Buddhist practice.

Hello Unibuddies 👋🌿

How have you all been lately? Week 4 is here, and with it come even more upcoming events 🧘‍♀️✨A heartfelt thank you to everyone who came to the meditation workshop last Saturday.

This week’s Meditation Session focuses on Cool Down and Slow Down 🌟 It is a calming practice designed to help you release mental tension, regulate stress, and bring your attention back to the present moment. It’s a simple way to step out of the mid-semester rush and restore a sense of balance.

In our Chinese Dhamma Talk, we’ll explore the Middle Way and Buddhist Precepts 🪷, discussing why precepts exist in Buddhism and how they function not as rigid rules, but as protection for the mind and practice. We’ll also look at how the Five Precepts help prevent extremes, and how the Middle Way can be applied in everyday decisions and behaviour.

Our English Dhamma Talk will focus on "Why Do Buddhists Meditate" 🧘‍♂️✨ The theme unpacks the purpose of meditation in Buddhist practice, from cultivating awareness and stability of mind to developing insight and inner clarity in daily life.

Also, a quick reminder that the Monastery Visit is happening next Saturday (4 July) 🏞️. It is a great opportunity to step away from the city, experience a peaceful environment, and deepen your practice in the monastery.

As always, feel free to drop in, bring a friend, or just come as you are 🥰
We’d love to SEE YOU this week 💛
