A world first for Karate Australia and Guardian Girls Karate.
“I thought I knew what to do to protect myself, but now I realise that there’s so much I didn’t know”
A powerful reflection from a Griffith University student who has just completed the world’s first 8-week Guardian Girls Karate program in Queensland. It’s why this program matters.
As the first university in the world to partner with Guardian Girls Karate, Griffith is helping empower young women through sport at a time when Australia’s mandatory National Code requires universities to take proactive action on gender-based violence prevention and student safety. Griffith University didn’t wait to lead.
They partnered with Karate Australia to create opportunities for women and girls to access the confidence, awareness and life skills that karate can provide. A huge congratulations to all the participants and a special thank you to Griffith University, Griffith Student Guild, the World Karate Federation, Guardian Girls Karate’s Alexandria Armour and Liz Mahler for bringing this critical program to life.
This is about more than karate. It's about helping women and girls feel stronger, safer and supported at each stage of life.
