Norwest Thunderdogs

The Norwest Thunderdogs Flyball Dog Training Club in NSW, Australia. It consists of a relay race between two teams of four dogs.

Flyball is a canine team sport which is founded on the activities that dogs love to do – run, jump, fetch, and retrieve. Each dog must jump over four hurdles, retrieve a ball by triggering a flyball box and then return over the hurdles to the start/finish line. The team that has the fastest time with the least amount of errors wins that race. The Norwest Thunderdogs Flyball Club was founded in 200

4 and is now one of the largest Flyball clubs in Australia. The club has enjoyed many successes including almost 20 National Championship Titles and is home to some of the fastest Flyball dogs in Australia. In fact, the Norwest Thunderdogs currently hold the Australia record for the fastest time of 15.987 seconds - beating 11 previous records since 2007, also held by the Thunderdogs. The Norwest Thunderdogs Flyball Club train at Castle Hill every Tuesday and take a limited amount of beginners each year. Almost every dog can be trained in Flyball and it takes on average 12 months to train a dog to competition level. The Norwest Thunderdogs are proud to use positive reinforcement training techniques and use treats and toys to train our dogs. Norwest would like to share the recent success of our much-loved THUNDERDOGS 1 team, at the ‘Cold Nose Fast Paws’ race meeting, hosted by Belconnen on Saturday 29th August.

Young-guns Zen, Aoife, Blaze and Spice decided to pack heat and take their shot. Their time of 15.924 has been locked in and approved, by the Australian Flyball Association, as the NEW OFFICIAL AUSTRALIAN FLYBALL RECORD!

Lovingly trained and handled by Emma Milharcic, Jessica Mellon, Ruth Pollard and Lynda Gordon, the BC / Kelpie / Koolie combo-crew did what they love to do: run fast, jump, fetch and tug. They are a credit to their tireless human slaves, who work so hard and give so much of themselves during club training and race meetings, as well as ‘after-hours’ conditioning, nutrition (treats) and general fun times for all.

With no previous record-holding canines in the line-up to help calm-the-farm and steady-the-ship, this Thunderdogs 1 team of fresh furry faces certainly didn’t seem to mind taking the wheel to steer flyball into previously uncharted territory.

As Thunderdogs 1 reflect on their accomplishments, they also give credit where credit is due.

They acknowledge those who set their heights; manoeuvre and load their box; care for their ouchies; hold them for warmups; s**g their balls; scribe their stats; plan, facilitate and deliver their training; brainstorm their remedials; transport their gear; tweak their glitches; select their team; and call their gaps.

They encourage us all to remember that we are not alone in our flyball journeys; that there are many others also giving their best, and that we are all part of a larger community.

Norwest Flyball Club are proud of our history; of our achievements. It shows that we value hard work and dedication. It is a source of motivation and inspiration for us and others. Pride in our flyball dogs and people is not about boasting or showing off. It is about acknowledging our worth and the worth of those around us.

Let us be proud of who we are and what we have accomplished, for we also recognise that we are part of something greater.

Norwest Flyball Club have some sensational Thunderdog members born in September, and we want to wish them all a happy birthday for their upcoming special day this month!

Throughout September we celebrate some gorgeous Mums, both human and Dog Mums, a dedicated field spaniel breeder, some of our media team folk and our awesome equipment organiser.

Norwest Thunderdogs at 'Frosty Paws', hosted by SC Tsunami Flyball, started early, waited out the rain, and finished with some fast runs. Katchowwwww!

The Thunderdog Cabanaville was a hive of busy yellow and black and a place to share a warm drink, a delicious BBQ'd sausage on a roll, some laughs and stories, and good company.

The Thunderdog athletes (definitely the dogs) were dealed treats from the fantastic Puppyporium in-between doing the things they love the most: playing flyball and being with their humans. Some of them gained titles, some were promoted, some ran with different dogs and different teams, but all of them were loved and cherished.

It was another great day-out for the Norwest Thunderdog community.

Congratulations Jazzy and Sandy on your recent racing promotions following last weekends 'Frosty paws '26' flyball competition in Albion Park.

Thunderdogs 8 will be hoping for cool & overcast racing conditions in Division 3, in order to unleash the beast, at the Frosty Paws flyball competition this Saturday 1 August, at Albion Park.

Joining their mature counterparts, at the hosted event, will be 8 of Norwest's newest crop of exciting future talent, rearing to go for a stint in the ring during Lunch Time Training.

It's going to be double trouble in Open 1 racing at the Frosty Paws flyball competition this Saturday 1 August, at Albion Park.

Ivy and Link will be racing AGAINST each other for the first time in the history of Norwest, and house-mates Ripley & Bullet will be pausing their domestic relationship for outright bragging rights once the racing begins.

Thunderdogs 1 and Thunderdogs 2 will be going head-to-head in Division 1 this Saturday 1 August, at the Frosty Paws race meeting hosted by at Albion Park.

Nothing quite like racing your stable mates! And don't get me started on who is related to whom in these teams.
