It is with a great deal of pride that we extend our congratulations to two outstanding individuals who have been recognised in the Kings Birthday Honours – both gentlemen receiving the Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to surf lifesaving.

David Torevell OAM has been awarded the Medal of the Order of Australia in recognition of his outstanding contribution to surf lifesaving and the community. David’s service spans over 35 years of leadership, education and hands‑on commitment to keeping our beaches safe. His passion for developing others, strengthening club capability and upholding the highest standards of surf lifesaving practice has made a profound impact. This honour reflects the enormous value of his work and the gratitude of the entire surf lifesaving community for his unwavering dedication.
***Don “Bullet” Henderson OAM*** 💫
Don “Bullet” Henderson OAM has been recognised in the King’s Birthday Honours for his exceptional and lifelong service to surf lifesaving for over 75 years. He was a Freshwater SLSC member from 1951-1961. A much‑loved figure within the broader community, Bullet embodies the spirit of dedication, humility and mateship that defines our movement. His decades of commitment — on the beach, in training, mentoring younger members and supporting the operational strength of the club — have left a lasting legacy. This honour acknowledges not only his service, but the deep respect and admiration he has earned across generations of lifesavers. He has been a Life Member of SLS South Australia since 2006 belonging to a number of clubs in his local community.
