Following the announcement that Chris is now officially a Rickson Gracie instructor, Paulo Guimaraes | 6th Degree BJJ Black Belt sat down with Chris to talk about what it actually means to him.
Paulo is the highest-ranking Brazilian Jiu Jitsu black belt in Australia, the first Brazilian BJJ black belt to open an academy here, and comes from the Rickson Gracie lineage himself.
For Chris, this was never about wearing a patch or being able to say he was part of something.
He spent years pursuing the Jiu Jitsu he went looking for in the first place — the fundamentals that allow a smaller person to survive, escape and control someone bigger.
That pursuit eventually led him to Master Rickson Gracie, and completely changed the way Chris understood and taught Jiu Jitsu.
