âĄïž Transition with Purpose: My Path from Defence to a New Opportunity đ«
For 15 years, I dedicated myself to the Defence Force, a path that provided structure, discipline, and a strong work ethic. It reinforced the value of commitment, perseverance, and contributing to something greater than myself. Being part of a community with a shared mission was meaningful, and those years shaped me in countless ways, instilling resilience and adaptability.
However, as time passed, I realized that while I was committed to the work, I wasnât truly fulfilled. One of my biggest struggles was the constant pull between my career and my familyâtrying to be present at home while managing the demanding expectations of Defence. No matter how much I gave to either, it often felt like I was falling short. The rigid structure of military life made it difficult to prioritise family, and I found myself sacrificing personal time for a system that didnât always offer the same loyalty in return. I also struggled with feeling unappreciated, undervalued, and unfulfilled in my role. The work was important, but it didnât align with my deeper sense of purpose.
When I made the decision to leave, it wasnât easy. I wrestled with the fact that I was stepping away without achieving some of the goals I had set for myself in Defence. The loss of financial security, the uncertainty of what came next, and the fear of losing social connection weighed heavily on me. Since leaving, the biggest challenges have been redefining my identity, finding a new community, and creating a new routineâespecially navigating who I am outside of the uniform.
But through all the uncertainty, I discovered something powerful: transitioning wasnât about losing what I hadâit was about building something new. My skills, experiences, and strengths didnât disappear when I left Defence; they became the foundation for a new chapter.
Now, I help others do the same. As a transition coach for Defence members who feel stuck in their next career move, I guide them in finding clarity, confidence, and directionâwhether theyâre looking to transition out of Defence or explore new opportunities within it. Navigating career changes can feel overwhelming, but with the right support, it can also be an opportunity for growth and fulfillment.
If you're feeling lost in your next steps, youâre not alone. Letâs work together to build a career and life that truly align with who you are. đ„
