From the very outset yesterday, the De La Silver boys were ready to play. What followed was a display of straight-up power, speed, skill and plenty of determination.
While we didn’t do ourselves any favours with the referee, the boys simply took it in their stride, water off a duck’s back.
Charlie opened the scoring off the back of a slick backline movement, before Sladie produced an intercept and went the length of the field. Poetry in motion. Cooper then extended the lead with a show-and-go from dummy half, putting the boys in a commanding position at half-time, 18–10.
After the break, the boys came out firing. They cleaned up the ruck penalties, completed their sets and started playing the footy we know they’re capable of. Coach Hodgo must have had a few firm words at half-time, because whatever he said, it worked a treat!
And when the game was there to be won, you look to an experienced leader to step up and big Fletch delivered.
A set move practised at training countless times was finally brought into the live environment. Too big. Too strong. Too determined. Fletch was simply not going to be denied.
This was his moment, a moment that will be etched in the memory and relived over and over again. A massive play when it mattered most.
A fantastic 24–14 win for the boys. Well done, De La Silver!
Some outstanding efforts across the park from Jordan, Sladie, Will, Fletch, Tyson, Brock and Charlie. Way too hard to pick a Man of the Match for this one, it was a true team effort.
What a performance 💙💛♥️
