Grading day test the forms. It also tests something the forms alone cannot show. Staying yourself under pressure, that is the real test.

Kind does not mean soft. Focus does not mean blind to everything else. Confidence does not mean looking down on anyone. Brave does not mean reckless.

Every person in this photo, from our youngest student to our oldest, was graded against the exact same standard last weekend. No junior version of the form. No lighter bar for the kids. If your stance was not solid, your sash was not ready. That is what we mean when we say Wing Chun 135 is not just a kids class with some adults added on, or an adults class that lets kids tag along. It is one school, one standard, and everyone in this room earned their place in it. Congratulations to all our new yellow sashes. You showed up, you put in the work, and it shows.

Most parents assume a short attention span for four to seven year olds is just how it is. It usually isn’t. What looks like a lack of focus is often a mismatch. Kids this age can focus for longer than you think, when what’s in front of them is built for how they actually learn. That’s exactly why we built Little Dragons the way we did: short drills, clear cues, fast wins, using the same structure and standard we’ve spent years developing with our eight to 12 year old programme.

Most martial arts schools make the same mistake with young kids. They take training built for older students and hand it down unchanged, and most parents do not notice until their child has already lost interest. We would not launch a class for four to seven year olds until we could avoid that mistake.

For years, this was the one class we could not offer.
Parents would ask about training for their 4 to 7 year olds, and we would have to say not yet because we were not willing to bring our programme down to a younger age group until we could do it properly.

There is a reason your punch feels flat, and it is not strength.
There are four points that change that:
Elbow to the floor, relax into the elbow joint. Point the elbow to centre, then accelerate.

The confident kids in our class never had to throw a punch. Most kids' martial arts classes rely on generic warm-up drills. At Wing Chun 135, even our beginner drills are built on the same physics-based structure and Chu ShongTin lineage we teach adults, with zero yelling and zero toxic tough-it-out culture. For years, I thought I just wasn’t a meditation person. Turns out I needed a version that didn’t ask me to sit still and switch my brain off. I needed something to focus on.
