In South-Western Sydney, there is a large population of Vietnamese-Australians and it's not uncommon to see Vietnamese-Australians kicking the round ball in a park.

But it wasn’t until October 2020 that the first Vietnamese-Australian soccer club was established, despite a long tradition of the world game in Vietnam dating back to the late 19th century.

Viet Sports Club officially joined CDSFA in December 2021 and participated in its first season in 2022.

Introducing ACU FC club manager - Sonny Makko.

We sat down with Sonny and asked him a few questions about ACU FC. Have a read through what he had to say.

How long have you been the football manager for ACU FC?
I started with the club in our inaugural year, 2019. Officially came on board in November 2018 while completing our licensing agreement with CDSFA.

What is your favourite thing about working for ACU FC?
It was exciting to start with a clear canvas so building the club from scratch is a big advantage. Initially the club culture was our focal point. Our club culture is my favourite achievement.

What are your hopes for the future of ACU FC?
To consolidate our current teams. Moving forward, looking at adding more senior teams and introducing Junior and youth teams in the next few years.

What are you looking forward to for the 2023 season?
For a club that has only been around for four years, I feel we have had good success on the field and definitely good success off the field with our club culture. For 2023,
I want to build on our club culture by continuing to bring in good people & this will allow us to have continued success on the field.
