Julian Holland, known throughout Australian boxing as the “Fighting Farrier,” built a respected professional career during the 1990s and early 2000s. Born in Bendigo, Victoria, Holland competed across the welterweight and light middleweight divisions, earning a reputation for his toughness, work ethic, and aggressive fighting style.
Turning professional in 1995, Holland quickly established himself as one of Australia’s leading welterweights. Over a 33-fight professional career, he compiled an impressive record of 29 wins, 3 losses and 1 draw, with 19 victories coming by knockout. His ability to finish fights and consistently perform at championship level made him a prominent figure on the Australian boxing scene.
Throughout his career, Holland captured numerous titles, including the Queensland State Welterweight Championship, Australian Welterweight Championship, Pan Pacific Welterweight Championship, Oceanic Boxing Association Welterweight Championship, Australasian Welterweight Championship, WBO Asia Pacific Welterweight Championship, Pan Pacific Light Middleweight Championship, and the Commonwealth Light Welterweight Championship. These achievements cemented his standing as one of Australia’s most successful domestic and regional champions of his era.
Among the notable victories of his career was a stoppage win over fellow Australian Hall of Famer Shannan Taylor in 2001, a result that highlighted Holland’s ability to compete with some of the country’s best fighters.
Following his retirement from active competition, Holland remained involved in boxing, mentoring and supporting emerging fighters in Victoria. His contribution to the sport has continued beyond his own fighting days, helping develop the next generation of Australian boxers.
