DANCER OF THE MONTH
It's the irrepressible David! We love having him light up the dance floor and share his love of the dance with us.
HOW DID YOU GET STARTED IN SWING DANCING?
I was sitting on the library stairs at University in a suit during O-Week, and my friend's girlfriend said, “You should do swing dancing, you are dressed perfectly for it!”. In a group chat I was told “Yeah, nah, you couldn’t do that”. Determined to prove them wrong, I did the class, I stared at the clock for the first 15 minutes, and since then, I’ve never looked back.
LINDY HOP, BALBOA, COLLEGIATE S**G, CHARLESTON - WHAT'S YOUR FAVOURITE AND WHY?
My go-to dance is Balboa. I can dance it economically for my body after a long night of dancing and retain the playfulness. I find it a versatile dance as I enjoy dancing it to beats per minute from as low as 60 to as high as 250.
WHAT DO YOU LOVE MOST ABOUT SOCIAL DANCING?
I have found there is an exceptionally satisfying feeling when you, your partner and the music are all in sync without saying a word to each other - the dancer’s mind-meld. I like to laugh and make my partner laugh on the dance floor. It’s very endearing seeing people I don’t recognise at socials, it reinforces this thing we love will continue to be around.
WHAT MAKES SWING CENTRAL A GREAT PLACE TO DANCE?
Swing Central is a reliable event that is beginner-friendly, has lots of space, friendly door staff, kind teachers, solid DJs with a good mix of music, and comes with a side of Troy ;)
