Our night time adventures began with a trip to Broadbeach to find a place for tea. Found a tavern that had a great deal, $12.00 dinners and it was awesome. Everyone had another great meal for the evening. On our way to catch the monorail the girls found a Merry-Go-Round that they begged us to go on! After a short trip on the monorail we arrived at Jupiters Casino. A wee surprise was in store for the girls as we took them to see 'Lumi Air' - a Cirque Extraordinaire performance. The girls were unprepared for what they actually experienced. It was the kind of show that they had never seen before and were captivated and amazed throughout (as were the adults). It was too hard to explain, other than 'we did not know dancers bodies could do such things!'. It was an amazing show and concluded a fantastic night. Back to the apartments for our nightly highlights and to relax and watch the nightlife below. Check out our photos from today.

Day 8 - Saturday, 12th July - we are now in Surfers Paradise -OMG - staying at the Mantra Wings Resort - what an amazing apartment, we are sooooo excited! The girls are swimming already (including synchronised routines in the pool), now posing under the waterfalls. We have just ordered 15 Dominos pizzas cause we are starving (again), and are preparing to relax for the afternoon before we go to dinner and a show at Jupiters Casino. The weather is absolutely amazing, we are running out of sunscreen and all have heat rash. Whats the weather like back at home?

DAY 7 - Friday 12th July. What a fantastic tournament we have had. The girls had a very early start this morning with the bus going at 7.15am. We knew we had a tough game this morning and we had to win to make the final. We fought hard for everything but unfortunately we couldn't get there. We played Mackay SHS white and lost 28 - 15 (this team eventually won the cup). Now it was to play for 3rd in the the Cup round. A bit of a wait until that game so we went round supporting the teams we had become friends with.
The match up for 3rd was with our friends from Northside Christian College again. A fabulous game with lots of fantastic and tense moments (Julie tried to get a photo of Mrs Thomson pacing up the sideline - but failed.) What was really awesome were the number of teams that had come to support us. If the tournament was about the spirit of support and friendships then our girls would have received it! And yes we won that game 26 to 22 which placed us 3rd in the Cup Tier and 9th overall out of 21 teams. Our little team Kia Ora from Ngarawhaia had a sensational tournament and were beside the team cheering them on on the sideline in the final. they were playing against a team that had not lost a game all tournament. A team that even Kia Ora had lost to in the pool rounds. Nail biting to the very end, our girls could barely contain themselves, Kia Ora came home with the win taking home the Under 16 Trophy Cup, 1st overall! The Kia Ora team couldn't wait to share their success with us. Wanting us to share their final chant and then photo. Presentations - as you can tell by the numerous photos we have posted it wasn't surprising that Tararua College won the photo of the day competition on Monday! Every game the girls played the opposing team chose a 'All Stars' player (not necessarily the best player of the game but the one the exhibited the spirit of the game). We had 3 girls who were up for this award and they were Abbey, Dayna and Nikita. Abbey was successful and received a certificate and small gift to recognise their achievement. Well done Abbey and her team! Sorry NZ but as you will see in the photos our team had a photo with Natalie Medhurst from the Australian Diamonds and Queensland Firebirds. Everyone is now back at the hostel, showering and relaxing, regaining our energy as we are about to hit the town. Watch out Brisbane City cause here we come!

DAY 6 - Thursday, 11th July 2013. Our first game of the day was against Mercedes College Green at 10.30am. A slow start to the game, our girls could not find their rhythm until the second half of the game and by then the gap was too great. We lost 26 to 17. Our next game against Citipionte Christian college at 12.00pm. Sensational game had by all with everyone fighting for everything. A good win to us 26 - 13. Our next game was at 1.30pm against Northside Christian College. The other team were excited to play us again since we had played them on Tuesday in our pool games. A great first half, with a slower second half saw us win this also 18 to 14. Our girls are very well known for being 'that lovely team from New Zealand who are always friendly, give gifts and take team photos' We now have teams coming up to ask for photos even though we have'nt played them. Back to the hostel for a shower and off to the shops up the road for a coffee (for the adults). A lovely tea once again, team meeting coming up to prepare for tomorrow and to share our daily highlights. An early night as we have to catch the bus in the morning to the courts at 7am.
