I’m back from Sydney, still trying to get through the mountain of emails waiting for me, and I found this little gem sitting in there…

Actually - two little gems.

I’ve been named a finalist in two categories at the Stevie® Awards for Women in Business:

Maverick of the Year
and
Social Change Maker of the Year – Disability

And they feel like two sides of the same work.

Maverick of the Year reflects the part of me that keeps questioning the things we’ve been told are simply “how it’s done.”

Why should people have to adapt themselves to services, systems and environments that were never designed with them in mind?

Why should accessibility be something we add only after someone struggles?

Why should support require people to become easier, quieter, more predictable or less themselves?

I’m interested in what becomes possible when we stop forcing people to fit what isn’t working - and start building something that actually works for them.

And Social Change Maker of the Year – Disability reflects what happens when those questions become more than ideas.

They become organisations.
Services.
Technology.
Better access.
Books, tools and practitioner learning.
Different ways of thinking about disability, support, capacity and what it means for a person to remain the authority over their own life.

That work has become Neurodivergent Empowered, The Nest, Sparkly Aliens Inc. and FREE 2B ME.

I don’t want to spend my life simply pointing at systems that aren’t working.
I want to build the alternatives.

So finding out I’m an international finalist for both Maverick of the Year and Social Change Maker of the Year – Disability feels pretty bloody special.

Sadly, for the third year in a row, we won’t be attending the awards in person in the US, because it is not safe for us to do so.
That part is genuinely disappointing.

But the recognition still means a lot, and I’m incredibly proud of the work these nominations represent.

Apparently refusing to accept “that’s just how it’s done” has its moments. 😆

{You can imagine little Tan driving everyone crazy with, "But whyyyyyyyy?"} 🤣🤣🤣

Less fixing. More living.

Thank you so much Mel for coming along to hang out with Kianni while I did my top 100 Australian Mums in Business entrance and while I spoke at the AusMumpreneur Gala Dinner.

I loved the theme and how everyone looks out for, and accomodate Kianni, and that I’m able to get her in rooms that enable her own unique star to shine ✨

Thank you Peace Mitchell and Katy Garner for putting on such an amazing event as always xx

It makes me emotional when I see how much the Nest means to our Phoenix Friends…

It’s weird how a beautiful, sparkly arrow made with precision and love by our very own Phoenix Friend, Murray, in Miss Taija’s Friday session can bring me to tears… but it did. Clearly the little arrow showing the direction to the Nest is my favourite part of the whole sign and I found myself needing to pause in front of it and watch the light make sparkles out of different parts of it.

It’s a tough time for a lot of our families… I’m sending them all some sparkly love their way as we ride this time out together 🩷🩷

Maybe today R U OK? Day needs a different sticker:

THIS PERSON PLAYED A PART IN MAKING ME NOT OK.

Not because we disagreed.

Because their actions reduced my rights, safety, access or dignity.

I wonder how differently people would behave if, just one day a year, their feed was filled with the people they had harmed saying:

“You made my life less safe.”
“You reduced my access.”
“You made it harder for me to exist.”

Maybe then we’d see less performative concern and more accountability.

Because “I didn’t mean to” does not undo harm.

500 Yoga NRG sessions today.

The original pic was when I started 2 years ago… and I remember how happy and grateful I was to be able to find a knee brace so sturdy that I could be active at all again without my knee constantly dislocating multiple times per day…

Because before that, my “specialists” told me I would never do anything more than a short walk again - no swimming, surfing, crossing my legs… even getting in and out of the car and out of chairs caused it to dislocate…

And already completely riddled with arthritis and a new H-EDS diagnosis I was told that “this is as good as it’s going to get”.

I’ve never been so grateful for my 🖕🖕attitude and PDA inability to relinquish autonomy over my life…

When it’s all taken away from you you realise that no one is coming to save you … and that you need to find accessible answers for where you are at right now… fail forward… rinse and repeat. But, you can find some pretty awesome people along the way 🤍

The fact that I’m also a yoga teacher now is just crazy.

Thank you Yoga NRG Mindfulness Training and the amazing community… there just isn’t the words 💋💋💋💋💋
