Why squat full depth?
We encourage everyone in our gym to squat full depth, or at least work towards it. Our 1RM testing is on our full depth squats.
Here are some solid reasons to squat full depth.
Improved mobility and flexibility: Performing a full depth squat helps to increase the range of motion in your hips, knees, and ankles, leading to improved flexibility and mobility. This can help to prevent injury and improve athletic performance.
Increased strength: Squatting to full depth engages all of the muscles in your lower body, including your quadriceps, hamstrings, glutes, and calves. This increased demand on these muscle groups leads to increased strength and power.
Improved balance and stability: When you squat to full depth, you are forced to maintain proper form and balance, which helps to improve overall stability and balance.
Better athletic performance: The full depth squat is a functional movement that trains your body to perform movements that are essential for many athletic activities, such as jumping, running, and cutting. By improving the strength, power, and stability of your lower body, you can improve your overall athletic performance.
Enhanced injury prevention (our favourite part) : Squatting to full depth helps to build robust, resilient muscles that are better equipped to withstand the demands of sport and physical activity. This can help to prevent injury and keep you on the field or in the gym or being able to keep parenting…
In summary, the full depth squat is an important exercise that can help to improve flexibility, strength, balance, athletic performance, and injury prevention. Full depth squats help build strong, bullet proof bodies!
