Deborah was trained in the authentic Pilates method under Romana Kryzanowska (who in turn was trained by Joseph Pilates) and Cynthia Lochard. She has also completed and degree in Sports Science giving her an in-depth knowledge of anatomy, physiology and bio-mechanics.

This is a single arm swan. You could include a pump of the pedal before the raise. On my left side I can register a really strong contraction in my back for the lift. On the right side it feels like my brain can’t sense the muscles enough to get the same lift. Hence the reason why we started on the weak side then to the strong and back to the weak side to try and get the brain to put a similar amount of effort into it.

Honestly in 26 years of teaching this method, I’m still learning to love the mountain climb, the burn in my butt is seriously uncomfortable. It’s always helpful to have Luke to correct a few angles as I battle through the burn.

A few snip its from my session being taught by Luke this week. .pilates
The reality of a Pilates session is there is no music. So I’ve kept the audio so you can hear the teaching along with a few grunts from me.
I’m on a short strap (handles removed) making me work much harder from my centre.
This is a real one to one session, instructors teaching instructors, not staged, so I’m showing you exercises that I need to make progress in. He’s helping me get better angles so I can work more deeply, these are things that only another instructors eye can see.
Pilates is all about stepping out of your comfort zone to get stronger and stronger.

This one feels so good. It really gives you the feeling of the length you are aiming for on the twist and reach, short box, reformer. It’s helpful for me to watch so I can see where I need to improve. But even funnier hearing Lukes entertaining chit chat. His disapproval of my girls rest, his random comment of “this is where the fun starts” (clearly his definition of fun isn’t the same as mine 😂)and then requesting a smile as I continue on an unexpected 3rd set with a miss count on reps 🙄

In my opinion and feel free to disagree, if you are unable to complete this simple sequence on the mat (on the wunda it’s a little more challenging) you shouldn’t be playing around with the advanced sequence on the reformer. The reality is this sequence is a little over 3 minutes long. If you included 3 mins of this work into your everyday perhaps you could slow down or even reverse the decay of the body into old age…… just a suggestion 😉

I posted my struggle with the tendon stretch last week on the Wunda Chair,
I have a list of exercises I really want to achieve with ease, The single leg tendon stretch on the Wunda is one of those. Before I can do single I need to be able to perform a strong tendon stretch.

This is where the system gets applied.
I have the range (flexibility) of movement in my body but I do not have enough power.
My system is focusing on building power within my stomach and hips to get the lift desired.
So here I show you the spine stretch and the low teaser on the Wunda, both still challenging for me, I back it up with standing pumping series on the Electric (High) Chair and I add the advanced leg spring series on the Cadillac.

Someone who has the power but not enough range of movement will have to work a different system that involves developing the range, perhaps involving the tower and monkey on the Cadillac.

The system is always personal to the individual needs, They are very rarely the same from one person to another, hence the reason why the original work of Pilates was all one on one and self practice, this is how you get effective results and quickly.

One spring on top for both, it’s a strong spring to work with.

The goal is the single leg tendon stretch, but before that I have to succeed a much deeper pull from the 2 leg tendon stretch. One spring on top one spring on bottom. It’s always been a massive challenge for me. I’ve kept the audio on so you can see what it’s like to be taught classical Pilates. Here’s hoping I can show you a more successful lift before to long

I’ll be covering the motivation behind his work, how his goal of ultimate health is approached, we’ll take a look at how he constructed his work to achieve this goal. The full content of the mat and reformer will be included. I’ll demo a chunk of the advanced reformer sequence and explain the process of progression. Anyone is welcome whether you have years of Pilates experience or never even seen inside a Pilates studio.
