🚨 Comp recap 🚨

Great lifting from the girls on Saturday at BNB with everyone coming away with multiple PBs. Is always great to see my lifters smashing it on the platform.

Amy put in another amazing performance going 8/9, PBs across the board, cracking 150 squat and deadlift, 1st in weight class, and was in the running for best overall female right up until the last deadlift.
Squat - 150 +12kg
Bench - 70 +1kg
Dead - 156 +9kg
Total - 376kg +26kg

Trish had a cracker of a day aswell going 7/9, PBs in every lift... she managed to get a 150 dead up aswell in the fight of the day but it went up, down, round, down, up and round a bit more before locking it out, unfortunately it didn't count. Trish placed 3rd in her weight class.
Squat - 122 +22kg
Bench - 60 +8kg
Dead - 140 +10kg
Total - 322 +40kg

Abby also went 8/9, added a few precious kgs with PBs on each of her lifts and a shiny silver medal
Squat - 93 +3kg
Bench - 48 +2kg
Dead - 116 +1kg
Total - 257 +6kg

Stacy went 8/9 aswell with PBs in squat, deads, total and came away with 1st place in her weight class
Squat - 120 +2kg
Bench - 68
Dead - 151 +1kg
Total - 339 +1kg

Danielle got 8/9 attempts and managed PB's across the board aswell, just missing a 100kg squat on depth
Squat - 96 +1kg
Bench - 52 +5kg
Dead - 115 +5kg
Total - 263 +10kg

Well done to the girls, so proud of you all .t can't wait till the next one.

Thanks for another great comp
And thanks to
for helping the girls warm up and Jimmy Leuenberger Photography for the great pics

Usually when asked for recommendations on what shoes to buy for squatting I would direct them to squat shoes - adipowers, romeleos, powerlifter etc but after seeing some high level lifters recommending Jordan's as their favourite squatting shoes I decided to try them out.

1st impressions were good, feet felt really planted on the ground and with a much broader toe box than both adipowers and powerlifts (over the last 4.5 years due to a broken ankle I've gone from flats to adipowers - high heel, to powerlifts- med heel and back to flats) they allowed a better toe spread. With a very minimal toe drop the Jordans feel very much like a shoeless squat. As you can see from the velocity graph I produced higher velocity in the Jordans than deadlift slippers (the slippers were the set after so one could argue I was more fatigued). Tbh at the time I felt like the slippers were a better squat, but interestingly the bar tracing shows the Jordans also had a much straighter vertical bar path indicating a more balanced/efficient squat pattern.

I'm not saying go out and buy a pr of J's, but sometimes it pays to experiment.

Do you breathe during a set when you're benching? If you do, try holding your breath for the entire set, I picked this tip up from and it's a game changer.
10x120 (yes, one breath).

"You can't cheat the grind..."
I can't think of anything this saying relates more to than powerlifting, there's no short cuts, there's no secret formula, there's no magic program, it's just you, grinding, rep after rep, set after set, day after day, month after month, year after year in the never ending pursuit of your next PR... Some would call it madness, others call it Powerlifting.

If you'd rather focus on what your body can do rather than what bodyfat % you are, then powerlifting might just be the sport for you... It will hurt, it will take time, it will require dedication and willpower, it will require sacrifice, you will push your body to the limit - and then past it, you will ask yourself why you are doing it and is it all worth it... But trust me, it is.

If this sounds like something you'd be interested in trying, DM me or call into Cyclone Training Centre and have a chat about joining our powerlifting team.

Comp wrap up:
Was great to get back on the platform after 12mths, I wasn't going to compete this year but decided to have a crack, attempt some numbers I've been eyeing off and try and build some momentum into 2021.

Squat:
After not having attempted anything over 230 for the past 15mths I wasn't sure how it was going to turn out, plan was for a small PB on 2nd attempt and then go for broke with the 3rd.
230 βšͺβšͺβšͺ
241 βšͺβšͺβšͺ 1kg PB
250 πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄

Bench:
Best it's ever felt atm after some technique changes this year. Opening with a PB is always fun. Plan was for 160 (equal gym PB) but on the day was feeling solid as so added a cheeky KG
150 βšͺβšͺβšͺ 3kg PB
157 βšͺβšͺβšͺ
161 βšͺβšͺβšͺ 14kg PB

Deads:
Queensland heat waves are great!
Plan was 250, 265 (2kg PB), 275, but feeling the heat and 250 coming up relatively easy I opted to go all in on the 2nd attempt, has worked in the past but not this time πŸ˜‚
250 βšͺβšͺβšͺ
275 πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄
275 πŸ”΄πŸ”΄πŸ”΄

Total 652 +2kg PB

Thanks to Dave and the BNB crew for putting on another awesome comp, and to old mate (can't remember his name) who put chalk on my back for bench when he saw me struggling to reach my back myself ( makes reaching hard work πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚πŸ˜‚).

Bring on 2021!!!

Congratulations Amy! After her recent competition our little pocket rocket is currently sitting inside the top 5 nationally ranked lifters in her weight category.

Amy always gives 100% to her training and always brings a little bit extra to the competition platform, usually surprising me with how easily she lifts weights that have been a struggle during comp prep πŸ˜‚. A great example of dedication and perserverance paying off. Awesome work Amy!! ... did someone say Nationals 2021 πŸ‘€
