The Zen Shin energy continues! 🥋

Senpai Matt, from Thornbury, was in Brisbane for work and brought his gi to come and help us teach the juniors class and join in our general and black belt classes.

Sensei Sam and Senpai Matt first met in New York, last month, at Zen Shin, but their histories are more intertwined.

When Sensei Sam moved from New Zealand to Australia in 2003 and joined Bayside dojo, he would travel with Jun Shihan Darek’s friend, Jun Shihan Giordano, via car/train/bike/train to Thornbury dojo on Saturday mornings to train. It was here that he first met Sensei Doug.

Sensei Doug and Senpai Matt also met at Thornbury dojo and last night was the first time they had caught up in seven years!

Thank you Senpai Matt for making the effort to come and train with us, we look forward to visiting you in Thornbury 🙏🏽

Goodbye, farewell, good luck! 🇯🇵

Last month we wished farewell (for now) to Satchiyo (Satchi), as she took an amazing opportunity to move to Japan (much to the envy of all of us)! 🗾

Satchi joined Seido Sunnybank over four and a half years ago, after a similar period training in another style of karate. Before she left, we held a special promotion, where Satchi successfully promoted to 1st kyu (advanced brown belt) and Adam and Addison successfully promoted to 8th kyu (blue belt) 🥋

Satchi will continue her Seido Karate journey in Japan and we look forward to visiting her in Japan and having her back in the dojo when she is back in Australia 🦘

Finished the tournament on a massive high 🪵

Gold for Australia in Lightweight Men Breaking 🥇

Two perfect breaks and a shuto that sliced through the boards as though they were butter. Honoured to be bringing home not one, but two, medals, especially a gold. Huge thanks to the team for pumping me up and getting me in the zone before the break 🥋
