Race report update 430 days on.

After a faild start to our 2022 season due to long covid, we got out at Broadford race track for an interclub round on 28 August 2022. We thought this would be a great way to get back in the groove before jumping into the other final rounds for the year.
Unfortunately on the last corner of the first racing lap, we found a bump and Mel's hip slipped off the platform, she was dragged on the left side of the bike until turn 2.
We thought the worst injury was a sprained ankle and smallish burn wound.
After scans, a moon boot and months of physio, it turns out Mel had ruptured and injured three ligaments in her ankle. A few more months of physio without healing success.

Today marks a special day as she is finally having surgery to fix her ankle🎉🎉

Good luck to all the teams competing, wish we could be there to join in the fun

With teams coming from the furthest places in Australia all converging on The Bend Motorsport Park this weekend, this final round of the Horsell Australian F1 and F2 Sidecar Championship will be greater than the sum of its parts.

Being the first national level sidecar races at The Bend Motorsport Park, a team from each class will go home with a lap record.

Phil Underwood and Tristan Vercoe lead the F1 points, but with F2 teams scoring F1 points, second place is Paddy Clancy and Steve Bonney on their LCR F2. If Phil and Tristan have the slightest bit of bad luck, or just poor pace, Paddy could be starting his F1 career next year with the number one plate, despite having won it on an F2. For Steve Bonney it will be nothing new as he had won F1 championships before against massive odds.

Third in the points on their new improved LCR Suzuki is Jamie Turner and Shelby Turner who aren't out of the championship chase and with working brakes, should upset the front runners.

Returning after missing round two is WA pairing of Des Harvey and Steve Marshall, always quick and always looking well presented. Other WA teams include Morgan Marshall and Dion Marshall and the long missed Rob Taylor and Dean Napier.

South Australia have provided a few teams too, but they will get their own post soon.

Races will be livestreamed both Saturday and Sunday on the ASBK page.

We had such an amazing day out at the track. Close and fun racing to blow out the cob webs!
Bring on 2022!

Thanks to Interclub Road Racing Series Victoria and Abacus Affordable Plumbing for putting on the sidecar races.
Thanks to all the marshals for giving their time, especially in the wild weather we had at times today.

We at Sidecar 80 would like to thank Steve for all of his help over the years and all the best in his retirement!

His knowledge and assistance (along with all the team at Mick Hone Motorcycles ) has been a great asset for us!
