A little share on something I don’t often share about ➡️

Bracing during a heavy lift is the ability to connect with a pause in your breath and the strength in your centre, to create stability under load!

Having mobility is great. Having strength is great. Having both is incredible, and highly recommended to move freely through this life.

Now… repetition is the only way to get good at something, BUT…. Pilates choreography would get boring if it was the ONLY thing I did. Squat, bench, and deadlift would get boring if it was the ONLY thing I did. Being able to choose and explore lots of different movement styles ensures they all stay fun!

Powerlifting massively affects your nervous system. So much of my days are spent being calm, but always being calm isn’t the goal. Knowing how and when to be calm, and knowing how and when to be energetic, is the goal. Powerlifting is my exploration (and outlet) of energy.

Progressive overload… that’s all 🫡

Training in the gym, where the session is planned for me already, is something I greatly appreciate. Less thinking, more doing.

The powerlifting community is incredibly welcoming and supportive

I’m grateful everyday for movement and breath in my body ❤️‍🔥

A little giggle… 101 on how not to squat 110kg 🤣

Part 2! Pull up on the Cadillac is an extension exercise… extension requires space and strength, not shortening!

By using the strength of my back and core in rep 2 (concentric contraction of the the erector spinae group and shoulder girdle, and an eccentric contraction of re**us abdominis) to facilitate extension of my thoracic spine, instead of hyper extending and passively using the the flexibility of the two already extended anterior curves in rep 1, I can create a much more even C curve in my spine!

This is the benefit is choosing to practice in a 1:1 or small group setting! This eye for detail, attention to the way you are moving, and where you’re initiating the movement from!
If you’ve been curious about starting or deepening your Pilates practice, reach out! I’d love to chat ❤️‍🔥

Part 1 -Spot the difference 👀

What do you notice changes about these repetitions of pull-up on the Cadillac?
I’ll share later in the week, what it was that I changed about my reps after watching my first attempt!

Exploring in depth the nuance of movement, in Pilates choreography, has been so fascinating this year as part of my comprehensive training… plus trying out fun choreography has been inspiring!

Hint - look at the anterior curves of my spine 🩻

Every time you step into the studio, know that it was set up with you in mind 🥰
With intention.
And with care.

Everything gets considered..,
Placement of props and apparatus.
Lighting.
Music.
The way it smells.

That just part of what makes private and small group practice so powerful ❤️‍🔥

Your breathing muscles are your core muscles… Intentional exhales connect you with the strength in your centre! 💪🌀

Not to mention deep and steady breaths are great for nervous system regulation… especially when things get hard (and we know Pilates sure can be!!)
