๐Ÿ‘ Community Recognition ๐Ÿ‘

Behind every successful community project are people who quietly put in countless hours behind the scenes, often without seeking recognition.

As we celebrate the completion of the Streaky Bay Oval Lighting Project, we would like to acknowledge two people whose dedication, expertise, and commitment were instrumental in bringing this vision to life, Penny Williams and Mark Dolling.

Penny spent countless hours researching funding opportunities, preparing grant applications, gathering supporting information, and navigating the paperwork required to secure funding for the project. Her persistence and dedication played a significant role in turning what seemed like an ambitious dream into a reality.

Mark brought invaluable expertise and leadership to the installation phase of the project. From planning and coordination through to overseeing the works, Mark generously contributed an enormous amount of time and knowledge. His willingness to share his skills and lead much of the project ensured the project was delivered to an exceptionally high standard.

Projects of this scale simply don't happen without people like Penny and Mark who are willing to go above and beyond for their community.

On behalf of the Streaky Bay and District Community Complex and the wider community, thank you both for the incredible contribution you have made.

Your hard work has created a lasting legacy that will benefit our community for generations to come.

๐Ÿ’ก Lighting the Future of Streaky Bay ๐Ÿ’ก

Now that the excitement of the first official night game under the lights has settled, we'd like to take a moment to reflect on what an incredible achievement this project has been for our community.

What started as the challenge of replacing ageing and unsafe light towers has become one of the biggest community projects our Complex has undertaken in years.

Thanks to the support of grant funding bodies, local businesses, volunteers, contractors, community groups, and countless community members, Streaky Bay Oval now has a modern lighting system that will benefit our community for many years to come.

These lights are about so much more than football. They create opportunities for night games, training, community events, increased participation, and greater use of our facilities. Community sporting precincts are often the heart of country towns, bringing people together, supporting active lifestyles, and creating lifelong memories.

The first official night game under the lights on Saturday 30th May between the Hawks and Wirrulla was a fitting way to celebrate this milestone. With perfect weather, a fantastic crowd, great football, and a wonderful atmosphere around the grounds, it was a night many of us won't forget. Seeing the oval come alive under lights and the community come together to enjoy the occasion was something truly special.

This project is the result of years of planning, fundraising, grant applications, volunteer labour, and community support. It is proof of what can be achieved when local volunteers, community organisations, businesses, funding partners, and supporters work together towards a shared vision.

A special thank you to the SANFL Infrastructure Development Team and Sports Lighting SA for their guidance and expertise throughout the planning and development of the project. We also gratefully acknowledge the support of the Office for Sport and Recreation SA, SANFL Facilities Fund, District Council of Streaky Bay, Bay Community Op Shop, West Coast Hawks Football Netball Club, and the Streaky Bay and District Community Complex, whose investment and commitment helped turn this vision into reality.

A huge thank you to everyone who contributed their time, expertise, equipment, fundraising efforts, and support throughout the project. Whether you wrote grants, donated resources, volunteered your time, purchased an auction item, or simply supported the project along the way, this achievement belongs to our entire community.
