Gβday to my LPCC friends,
This weekend marked the final minor round matches of the season, and we saw some terrific highlights for the club.
Our A2s completed their match against Greenock at Stocky. They had set Greenock 166 for victory last week, and Tommy Treloar (3/58) and Harry (3/38) certainly had us in the game at 5/80. Unfortunately, Greenock put together a couple of strong partnerships and, at 6/154, needed just 12 more runs for victory. Enter The Badger. After a couple of fairly ordinary overs earlier, he was thrown the ball and proceeded to take 4/1, ending Greenockβs innings on 158. It was a fantastic result for the lads and means they head into next weekβs semi-final against Gawler Central full of confidence.
Our A3s took on Greenock at Greenock. Chasing 183 for victory, we made a reasonable start, with Kurtis (11) and Zac (10) both reaching double figures. Hermy (20) and Schill (23) were looking great before playing shots theyβd probably like back. Landy (14) and Haydy built a good partnership, with Haydy compiling an excellent 47. Unfortunately, he fell just short of his fifty and, at 9/156, it looked like game over. However, it was terrific to see the fight shown by our youngest player, Boomy, and our oldest, Toolman (14*). Boomy eventually fell for 6, leaving us just 8 runs short. That wraps up the season for the A3s, with some solid foundations to build on next year.
Our A6s took on top-of-the-ladder South Gawler at Moculta. Tommy has started a new strategy β he no longer calls it βthe toss,β instead referring to it as βthe hossβ β and it worked this week! Tommy won the βhossβ and we batted first. Marty and Leo got us off to a steady start, but the arrival of Tommy G soon lifted the tempo. He batted superbly for 57, including three sixes β one a massive hit straight down the ground. Timmy Glads joined Marv at the crease and also scored at better than a run-a-ball, finishing with 47, including three sixes of his own. Marv made a patient 38, BT added some late fireworks with 23*, and we finished our 40 overs at 6/178 β one of our better batting performances for the year.
Leo and BB opened the bowling and quickly had South in trouble at 3/8. Leo finished with excellent figures of 2/29, while BB was his wily self with 2/13. Coutta continued the momentum, bowling beautifully to claim 3/18, and Timmy Glads finished the job with 3/11. We bowled the top side out for 71, leaving them scratching their heads before finals and finishing our season with a fantastic win.
The U12s played at Stocky on Saturday morning, defending 157. Archer Turley (1/10 off 3) got us off to a great start with a caught and bowled at 1/2, and from there wickets fell at a steady rate as we bowled Angaston out for 97. The fielding was tidy throughout the day, highlighted by a well-executed run-out from Nate L. While Rachel, Lawson, Brody and Archer all picked up wickets, it was Nate L who led the way with 2/21. Another great win for our U12s, who finished the season with just one loss β a tremendous effort. Well done to all the kids, and thank you to all the Nuri players and families who were involved throughout the season.
The U10s travelled to Gawler Centrals on a hot Friday evening. With big boundaries and tough conditions, runs were hard to come by for both sides. Lawson (17) was strong down the ground, while Jarrah and Liam (17) found the gaps and ran hard. There was a mix of wicket-takers, with Jarrah (1/9) and Archer (1/13) the pick of the bowlers. Some indecisive calls from GC led to confusion and multiple run-outs, with several direct hits the highlight of the game. There were plenty of positives from a strong performance. LPCC 1/132 defeated Gawler Centrals 8/87.
On Friday night, the Rookies hosted ERCC. Isaac captained the side and won the toss, electing to bat first. Ted and Isaac opened the innings and provided a solid start with strong calling and running between the wickets. Ted finished with a well-made 23 and Isaac 7. Sid came in late, starting with a boundary and finishing on 11. With the ball, we maintained a consistent line and kept our wides down. However, the stronger Eudunda side managed to negotiate the good deliveries and score freely. We claimed two wickets, with Isaac (1/19) and Hamish (1/24) the wicket-takers. Final score: LPCC 71, ERCC 116.
Thank you to the organisers of Beer Pong Night on Saturday. There was a great turnout, with plenty of fun and banter throughout the evening. I was surprised to see Archie had grown a few inches since I last saw him β with that height, he might turn into a half-decent bowler one day! Badger and Schraps took home the win, which was warmly received by all.
Our next events are our final ones for the year β our Junior and Senior Presentation Nights.
The Junior Presentation Night will be held on Friday, 20 March, starting at 6pm. Awards will be presented, followed by a pizza tea. Tickets are $5 per head or $20 per family.
The following evening, 21 March, is our Senior Presentation Night. The dress code is semi-formal (players are strongly encouraged to wear their club tie β even you, BB!), and the meal will be catered by Fire Wild. Tickets are $50 per head. Please RSVP to Sarah Gripton for both events and advise of any dietary requirements.
With our final week of junior matches and the A2 semi-final against Gawler Central coming up, I hope to see plenty of you out supporting our teams. I donβt yet have venue details for the semi-final, so keep an eye on our social media pages for updates later in the week.
Yip Yah, Carnβ Baggies!
