Kirsty, a Water Warrior

In Kirsty’s words:

“The first time that I heard about Metaqua was years ago. I saw an ad on Facebook and thought that it would be a good thing to do to to lose weight and the low impact factor of being in water made me send Amanda a message.
Getting into the water was nerve wrecking the first time. Being a larger person the thought of getting in the pool in front of people I didn't know was scary. My fears were baseless as everyone was super supportive of each other. Being in the pool in the early morning (I do 6am sessions) is amazing and sets your day up beautifully.

I have always loved swimming and water, but life gets busy and being unhealthy made me very self-conscious about getting into the pool. I've grown a lot more confident since coming back to Metaqua last year.

I have lived in Stanthorpe for over 10 years, but I am a born and bred Brisbane girl. We moved here due to work commitments. I'll give the answer I give the kids I work with when they ask how old I am ...35ish lol

I tell anybody about this program. I say give it a go and you won't be disappointed! It's not just putting on flippers and doing laps. There are different exercises that can be tweaked for all fitness levels. The Metaqua community Amanda has built covers all ages and everybody is happy and supportive. 

I was so unfit when I first started but I can feel already the difference in my health. Being part of a supportive group of swimmers, has helped me be brave enough to join the gym this year and set new fitness goals. It felt intimidating to walk into a gym full of fit people, but everybody is there for themselves and not watching what anybody else is doing.

Not every day is easy, but on those days, I personally make myself get up and go even more as it's needed the most. Especially if it's been a hard, stressful week with life, kids, work etc and getting in the water is super helpful for recovery when the muscles have been worked hard in the gym the day before.”

Well, wow, what an impressive turnout today, for our 1st session for from the .
The air was cool, and the water cooler but this incredible lot put everything into learning Metaqua Water Fitness today! So impressed. We had non swimmers, beginners and natural water babies in the water today. And wow the confidence in the water really grew strong by the end of the session!!!
Metaqua Water Fitness is a gentle water fitness program to be swum by all. You don't have to be a swimmer to enjoy metaqua. It's a go at your own pace program.
Next session is Monday 10.15am!

Lea, a Water Warrior

In Lea’s words,

“I had seen some of the Water Warrior posts and thought it would be a great way to exercise without the risk of injury. I am not always comfortable in the water and keep to mainly land based activities. I was booked in for the initial lesson when I read a Water Warrior article that mentioned laps. I freaked out a bit. I haven't done laps and very rarely go in the deep end. Amanda assured me I'd be fine, and that everything was at my own pace.

Amanda was right! I bought my flippers after the first lesson, and I get quite put out now if I miss a class. I cannot believe how comfortable I feel in the pool & that I can do Metaqua anytime anywhere there is water. I don't need to make a class, though it is quite nice to have company and others to have a giggle with. Healthwise I have moved into an age bracket where the medical guideline says my cholesterol needs medication. I am challenging this by making some lifestyle changes including upping my exercise. Metaqua is helping me win this challenge. I have found I sleep so much better after a class and there are fewer aches in my body.

In May this year, I am walking my second Camino (with my partner Mick). The walk from Porto in Portugal to Santiago de Compostela in Spain will be about 250km. Generally, people will walk this over 14 days. I plan on loitering and stopping at some lovely beaches along the way so it might take me 18 days.

Metaqua is helping a lot with my preparation and longer-term fitness goals. Luckily the Amiens Forestry provides me with training tracks for my walking training. At present about 10 weeks before we leave, I am walking on average two 6km trails 3 or 4 times a week and usually an extra-long hike (12-20km) once a week making sure I get in some elevations. Metaqua while it is building strength and cardio it feels good to get my muscles working differently to the usual walking and the support being in the water provides to my joints really helps. I also want to get back on my bike so perhaps on Metaqua days if I do a ride and a walk, I can call that my triathlon.”

Royal Life Saving Funded Community Opportunity - Connecting Seniors.
Water Safety and Lifesaving Refresher Tenterfield.
PRICE : FREE!
Must be 65 +years old, 50 + for aboriginal people.
1st Session - Sunday 24th March 4pm - 5.30pm. Tenterfield Pool.
2nd Session - Monday 25th March 10.15am - 11.15am Tenterfield Pool.
1st session - learn 10 Metaqua Water Fitness Exercises. Flippers and kickboard provided. Participant just needs to bring a hat, sunnies (as head is out of the water the entire time) and water bottle.
2nd session - do and hour class of Metaqua Water Fitness. Flippers and Kickboard provided.
These sessions are fully funded.
Pool entry paid both days, both sessions funded and a light snack provided.
Limited spots.

In Belinda’s words:

“I moved to the area 36 years ago from the coast of NSW. I have always loved swimming and exercising. I live one hour out of town. After taking my swimmers to town with me, on my weekly grocery shopping trip, but not going for a swim, because it was either too hot or too cold, I saw a story about Metaqua and thought that this might be just what I was looking for.

Having known Amanda previously, I had no hesitation in contacting her and putting my name down for a Metaqua lesson. I really enjoyed the training session and have been attending Metaqua weekly this year. I like that you can go at your own pace, and Amanda is there in the pool with you to correct any exercise you are doing incorrectly. You can feel your muscles working hard while you are in the water, but they aren’t sore when you get out.

There is time for a smile or a quick “hello” as you pass the others going up and down in the pool. Although Amanda challenges you to do more laps than you did last week, you also challenge yourself to keep up with the others. I have found Metaqua to be very relaxing as well as a good exercise for my body.

About the same time that I saw Metaqua described, I saw the post about the Casual Kayaking Crew. I enjoy kayaking in the river on my farm, but most of the time,there isn’t a lot of water for a long paddle. I went along on the first Tuesday and really enjoyed it. I’ve been on the two weekend paddles and on each occasion have spent two hours paddling and chatting to someone that I didn’t know previously. I have enjoyed discovering Storm King Dam and look forward to discovering other dams in the area. It has been great to pick up kayaking tips and techniques as well as increase the distance that I can paddle.

Both Metaqua and the Casual Kayaking Crew are great exercise, relaxing, socially stimulating. I have found Amanda to be a very positive and encouraging person to be around.”

Who would of thought, at the start of the season, we would all be saying, "Today I am going to swim 100 laps".....my goodness I love this incredible water community that has grown.....who's next to join the 💯 CLUB?
And to get that Friday vibe going , Jen went and smashed 100 laps in the Stanthorpe 50 metre pool.....I think challenge has really been set, just saying!!!!

THE 100 CLUB, NEWEST MEMBERS!!!! Massive congratulations and welcome to the 💯 club!!! Wow, what an incredible session today.
Jacqui, Deb, and Myself (I really had to step up to the plate) thanks, Warwick Metaqua Water Fitness Crew for the motivation and little push to get in there and give it a go.
When would you ever think you would get in the water and do laps of a 33 metre pool for 2 hours hey?????? And enjoy it!!!!!!
Do you know I have never said, today I am going to do a session of 100 Metaqua laps.....today was the day with the incredible Tenterfield Crew....33 metre x 100 laps = 3.3km!!!!! Killed it!
In the coming weeks their will be more join the 💯club.....86 laps completed, 77 laps completed, 64 laps completed.....100 is just around the corner! 👊
