Congratulations to The Summit BC winning the inaugural SDDMBA 7’s. Each team consists of 1x triples & 2 x pairs. Commiserations to the Stanthorpe BC who had a great weekend and didn’t let The Summit boys have it their own way.
Thanks to Paul Beaman for running another great District event.

Stanthorpe Bowls Club Bowls Notes week ending 16/6/2024

Our monthly ‘Turkey Triples’ event was held on Tuesday June 11 with 12 teams nominating for the event. Runners up for the day with a score of 27 points were The Summit Bowls Club team of Rod Crome, Tony Schubert and Adrian Jackson. The prize money for the winners went to the Stanthorpe Bowls Club combination of Robyn Rose, Wendy Hurnall and David Rose who scored an impressive 28 points. Big thank you to all the bowlers who attended and helped to make the day a great success. Thank you to our kitchen staff for preparing the lunch and refreshments and also thank you to our band of volunteers who prepared the green and surrounds.
On Saturday June 15, our 2024 Ladies Club Champion Wendy Hurnall took part in the district ‘Champion of Champions’ event which was held at the Summit Bowls Club. Wendy competed extremely well as per usual in her preliminary game but unfortunately went down by 3 shots, 18 to 21 to Faye Flint of the Warwick City Bowls Club. Faye went on to win the final by 25 shots to 16, defeating Pam Moore of the Summit Bowls Club. In the Men’s section held on Sunday June 16, Len Girgenti did battle with Mark Gallagher of the Tenterfield Bowls Club. Len started well and at the half way mark the scores were fairly even however, in the second part of the game, Mark took control and ended up winning quite comfortably by 25 shots to 15. Mark went on to play Jamie Zamprogno of the Summit Bowls Club in the final. In a great display of draw bowling by both players, Jamie managed to hold his composure and run out eventual winner by 25 shots to 19. Congratulations to all the players who took part in the competition. You all did your Clubs proud by playing and competing in the true spirit of this great game.
In a game of Social Bowls fours during the week, Helen Jones, Caroline Draper, Brian Brown and Gary Trevena had a comfortable 21 shots to 9 victory over the team of Colin Denning, David Draper, Polly Lay and David Rose.

Stanthorpe Bowls Club Bowls Notes week ending 26/5/2024

Two games of Social Bowls Triples were played on Wednesday May 22 and results are as follows. Steve Sheahan, Lorraine Evans and John Fairley had a 5 shot victory over Helen Jones, Sylean Fairley and Brian Brown defeating them by 17 to 12 and on the other rink, Brad Silver, Margaret Harvey and Ossie McPaul had a comfortable victory over Filomena Silver, Colin Denning and Len Girgenti defeating them by 23 shots to 11.
On Saturday May 25, three games of pairs took place. Caroline Draper and Jeff Alldridge had a 6 shot victory over Colin Denning and David Draper winning by 22 shots to 16. Micha Arnold and Greg Hammond went down by 5 shots to Dianne Arnold and Brian Brown to the tune of 14 shots to 19. No results were handed in for the final game.
