A 🗣️ BIG FAT REMINDER that the biggest improvements aren't made during competition season - they're made in the OFF season. Don't just throw your horse out for a lengthy spell because there are no comps, it's winter and it's cold, it's dark early, it's all just too hard... Blah blah.
Instead, you should focus on showing up consistently and WITH purpose. Every ride and every inhand session, every small improvement adds up over time. (And no, this doesn't mean the same intensity as during the competition season).
The OFF season for your discipline is your opportunity to slow down, reflect, and work on those niggly little things that held you back during the last competition season.
Maybe it's improving straightness, refining your transitions, building confidence, or strengthening the partnership with your horse.
It's the 🤏🏽 LITTLE things that bug you about your horse, that you can't quite achieve in your competitions that you should work on improving.
These are the details that separate a good run from a GREAT one, or when ALL the things could go wrong - but you and horse (that you have a great partnership we with) kept it together to get around safely.
🏆 Champions aren't made on competition day. They're made in these quieter months when no one is watching, through the consistent, thoughtful training and the commitment to becoming better for your horse.
Use your off season wisely. Build and confirm the foundations now, so when the season returns, you and your horse are ready to perform with confidence.
