I love bringing people into the studio to share things I know very little about.

When Karishma approached me about running an Odissi workshop, I realised I knew almost nothing about this style of dance. After seeing her perform at our art exhibition earlier this year, I knew I wanted to learn more.

Odissi is one of the oldest classical dance forms of India, known for its flowing torso movements, sculptural poses, rhythmic footwork and expressive hand gestures.

This workshop is designed for complete beginners. You don't need any dance experience. You don't need to be flexible. You don't need to know what you're doing. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to try something different.

Karishma has over 27 years of dance experience, including 10 years dedicated to Odissi, and will guide you through foundational techniques, movement and short choreographic phrases in a supportive environment.

We'll also share chai and snacks together afterwards

ARE YOU AN ARTIST?

After all the love and success of our Threads of Being exhibition in April, we're doing it allllllll again.

Applications are now open for our next exhibition, Emerge, happening on Sunday, 17th October 2026 at Nin Yoga Penrith.

We're looking for painters, photographers, digital artists, potters, ceramicists, sculptors, mixed media artists, illustrators and creatives of all kinds. We're also looking for poets, musicians, dancers and performers who would like to share their work on the evening.

The theme for this exhibition is Emerge.

What that means is entirely up to you.

Perhaps it's about stepping into a new version of yourself. Perhaps it's about growth, healing, becoming visible, finding your voice, or the moment something hidden begins to surface. We intentionally choose themes that can be interpreted in many different ways, and we love seeing where artists take them.

We curate each exhibition to create a balance of mediums, styles and experiences throughout the space. Applications do not guarantee a place, and artists will be notified once selections have been made.

100% of artwork sales go directly to the artist.

For guests attending, tickets are already available at www.ninyoga.com.au/shop :
• $27 early bird (first 100 tickets)
• $37 thereafter

The evening will include art, music, poetry, unlimited herbal tea, nibbles throughout the event at no extra cost, and wine for a small donation.

Applications are now open:

We'd love to see what emerges within this so very wonderful community.

Sometimes an hour-long yoga class just doesn't feel like enough, right?

You leave feeling better than when you arrived, but there is always sooooo much more to explore.

The philosophy.
Meditation.
Pranayama.
Why yoga works the way it does.
How to slow down.
How to work with what your nervous system is doing.
How to take what happens on the mat out of the studio and into the whirlwind that is everyday life.

Soooo... we created a Weekend Yoga Immersion.

A cosy two-day experience where we get to slow down, learn, practise and spend a whole weekend immersed in all the layers that are yoga, together.

We'll explore meditation, pranayama, philosophy, alignment-based movement, Yin Yoga, restorative practices, Yoga Nidra, journaling and reflection.

No experience required.

Just curiosity and a willingness to spend a weekend slowing down, learning and connecting with the community.

22nd–23rd August
11am–4pm daily

Vegetarian lunch, tea and snacks included.

Nin Yoga Book Club

The Secret Power of Yoga by Nischala Joy Devi

Saturday 14th June
2:30pm – 4:00pm
Nin Yoga Penrith

For this meet-up we’ll be discussing Part 3 and Part 4 of the book, exploring the deeper layers of practice, devotion, self-study, surrender, and the ways yoga continues to shape how we move through everyday life.

This book has sparked some really beautiful conversations in our community already. Less about “getting yoga right” and more about softness, honesty, relationship, and returning to what actually matters.

“The heart is the hub of all sacred places. Go there and roam.”

You do not need to have all the answers, and you definitely do not need to speak the whole time. Some people come with pages of notes. Some people mostly listen. Both belong here.

Expect thoughtful discussion, warm tea, light nibbles, and conversations that tend to linger long after the official finish time.

$10 per session
Free for unlimited members

Book via www.ninyoga.com.au/penrith or the Mindbody app. Spaces are limited.

The world is noisy.

Sometimes louder than others, but there is almost always a hum of something in the background.

And yet, when I’m deep in the bush, far away from the thick of it, I sometimes close my eyes and listen for the silence in between the sounds. In those moments, I can feel my mind soften. Make room. Exhale.

Because what I’ve realised is this:

It’s not always the world that feels noisy.

Sometimes, it’s the constant chatter inside our own minds.

In yoga philosophy, this is called *citta vritti* — the fluctuations of the mind.

I remember this becoming painfully obvious during my first 10-day silent retreat. The first few days were hard. My mind was loud, restless, grasping for stimulation. But around day four or five, something shifted.

I calmed down.

The only thing I had to do was… exist.

Meditate. Walk. Sit. Be.

And in all that external quiet, I realised something uncomfortable but freeing:

We don’t have complete control over the noise of the world, but we can sometimes step away from it. Put the phone down. Change environments. Ask for quiet. Go for a walk. Sit outside.

But the noise in our minds? The person who can meet that is us.

As the days rolled on, I became more comfortable spending time with myself. I noticed parts of me that needed care. Parts that were wonderful exactly as they were, without external validation.

Silent spaces aren’t for everyone, and they aren’t for every season of life.

But maybe this is your reminder to create a little quiet.

10 minutes.

Turn off the TV. Put down the phone. Silence the notifications.

Just be.

There are parts of yourself quietly waiting for you to listen.

— Karen

P.S. I’m hosting a Quiet Creation Workshop this Saturday, and teaching the meditation modules inside our Yin Yoga & Meditation Teacher Training beginning July 24th. Join me if either feels like something your nervous system has been asking for.

Still reminiscing over the graduates we have had this month for our Yoga & Reformer teacher trainings 🥹, including, of course, Ana! We are soooooooo very proud of you.

Thank you to each and every single one of the graduates for trusting us. Regardless of you want to become a teacher or not, showing up consistently in this way is never easy, but in the end, oh so worth it.

Our next training starts July 24th 2026, for a 50-hour Yin Yoga & Meditation, followed by a 200 Hour Reformer Pilates Teacher Training starting September 5th 2026 or Yoga Teacher Training starting again in February 2027.

Legs Up the Wall (Viparita Karani)

often, one of the simplest Yin shapes, and honestly one of the most effective (and my personalll fav!)

It doesn’t look like much, but this pose can completely shift how your body and nervous system feel in a very short amount of time.

What it can support:
• Calming the nervous system
• Reducing heaviness, swelling or fatigue in the legs
• Gentle decompression through the lower back
• Rest, recovery and sleep
• Slowing everything down a little bit

How to set it up:
• Sit sideways next to a wall
• Roll onto your back as the legs swing up
• Your hips can be close to the wall or further away depending on what feels best
• Arms can rest by your sides or on your belly

And no, you do not need to force your legs perfectly straight.

A few variations are shown in the video too:
• Butterfly legs
• Malasana shape with the feet pressing into the wall
• Figure four legs

Each one changes the sensation slightly while still keeping the shape pretty restful overall.

I didn’t show this version in the tutorial, but you can also practise this without a wall by placing a bolster or block underneath the sacrum and allowing the legs to float upwards.

Stay for around 3 to 8 minutes.

If the hamstrings start screaming at you, move further away from the wall or bend the knees more.

To come out:
• Bend the knees
• Roll onto one side
• Give yourself a second before sitting up

One of the things I love most about Yin Yoga is that sometimes the most supportive practices are also the least complicated.

If you want to go deeper into Yin Yoga, meditation, meridians, philosophy, sequencing and restorative practices like this, our next 50 Hour Yin Yoga & Meditation Teacher Training starts July 24.

A lot of people join because they simply want a deeper understanding of the practice and a reason to slow down consisten
