Wayne’s Wind Up
Masters season started last Friday and our Saints go into it as defending Premiers.
Hopes are high for the season but things are set up a bit different this year. There’s just one big division instead of two like normal.
This means we get to play teams we have never seen which is a challenge we are looking forward to!
We hit one of those teams first game up in the Red Sox Rippers. They weren’t the team we were familiar with at all.
We started off well. A double to Rob the Flog Slarke, Nick Simpson getting a hit, Andrew Wilson managing to make it two bases on errors bringing in three runs in the first.
Then Wilson hit the mound and went three up, three down. He struck two out looking and got the last caught.
Our bats didn’t do us any good next inning but neither did theirs. Wilson had something to do with all the outs here from taking a catch, throwing one out and striking one out. You know he did a little something…
Our bats were still asleep in the third and unfortunately so were our fielders who made a few errors letting the other team score 5 and go in front
4th inning and Wilson led us off with a double, I cracked a nice one over 2nd which got some chanting of King Wayne going, ( I was just glad they didn’t say it the other way around!), Rob Sultana cracked a nice one to get on base and Paul Rowley hit out to center to bring across three runs to tie everything up.
On the field we held them again with good heads up play by Nick Simpson. Batter hit to just behind second base and infield fly was called. The runner from first must not have heard it but Nick knew it was on. Fielding the ball he narrowly missed getting the guy on 2nd before he got back but made the throw to first to get that guy before he got back.
We didn’t score any more runs in the 5th but they did with a little dribbler down the third base line to bring in the winning run
We lose in a walk off, but it was our errors that really cost us the game.
What it did show us is even without all our players and not hitting our best, we can hang with the Div 1 teams from last year so we are looking forward to a good year.
We welcomed a couple of new members in Rob Sultana and Al Roberts who played his first ever game, almost took a catch and got a hit. Welcome to the mad house boys!
Next week we are out at Bogabilla taking on the Royals at 830pm. Time to start winning again!

Happy Father’s Day to all our Saints dads.

The St Mary's Defenders took on the Penrith Thundercats in another great game of T-Ball.

This is a brand-new team this year, and the players showed plenty of passion, determination and enthusiasm throughout the game. While the Defenders went down 25–8, the score didn't reflect the effort the team put in.

For many of our players, it was their first time taking to the field this year. Everyone dug deep, gave it their best and continued to learn and develop throughout the game.

Play of the Day went to Elijah, who had a fantastic game.

MVP went to Annalyn for her great effort and contribution to the team.

The Defenders are a team full of energy and potential, and it was fantastic to see the players supporting each other and giving everything they had.

A great effort from the whole team, and we can't wait to see what they can do next week!

The St Mary's Crusaders opened their season with an exciting 1–0 victory over the Penrith Supercats in a great game of baseball.

It was a tight game from start to finish, with both teams playing some excellent defence and fighting hard for every opportunity.

Player of the Week went to Chris, who had a fantastic game at the plate, including an outstanding three-base hit.

Alex also received an award for his batting, hitting Chris home to score the only run of the game.

The defence from both teams was solid, making for an exciting and closely fought game.

What a great way for the Crusaders to open the season — with a win!

The St Mary's Cardinals came away with a convincing 9–6 victory over McKillop Green in an exciting game.

The Cardinals put in a great team performance, with strong defence and some very solid glove work keeping the spectators on the edge of their seats. The Cardinals proved too strong in the end.

There were plenty of highlights throughout the game:

Maliki pitched for the first time and kept McKillop scoreless in the final inning.
Alirah recorded the Cardinals' first hit of the season.
Benny was hitting the ball like a missile with some great line drives.
Jack delivered two world-class innings on the mound.
Harry worked hard behind the plate at catcher.

A fantastic team effort from everyone. Great hitting, strong defence and plenty of determination made it a great game for the Cardinals.

The St Mary's Guardians had a sensational game against the Mt Druitt Lions Minors, going down 6–7 in a very close and exciting game.

The Lions started strongly, scoring 4 runs in the first inning. St Mary's fought back with 3 runs of their own.

In the second inning, Mt Druitt added another run, but St Mary's responded with 3 runs to keep the game close.

The Lions scored 2 runs in the third inning, with St Mary's unable to add to the scoreboard, giving Mt Druitt a narrow 7–6 win.

There were plenty of great performances from the Guardians.

Memphis was outstanding, striking out two batters in a row. His performance earned him Play of the Day

Mark worked hard at the plate and took a great catch. His efforts were recognised with this week's MVP award.

Luca delivered a solid shutout to finish the game, while Olivia, Vincent and Levi put in some great defensive work.

Dexter and Ned were excellent behind the plate, showing great catching skills. Tyler had safe hands at first base, taking two outs from throws by Mark and Dexter.

It was a sensational game from the Guardians. The team showed great effort, improved skills and plenty of development throughout the game.

A narrow loss, but a fantastic effort from the whole team. Well done Guardians!

The St Mary's Saints had a great start to the season with an exciting 12–12 draw against the Plumpton Braves.

The Braves were up for the fight, and it was a hard-fought Intermediate League battle right through to the final inning. The Saints fought hard and never gave up, walking away with a well-earned draw.

There were plenty of highlights throughout the game:

Jaz had a fantastic day at the plate with two doubles.
Easton delivered a great strikeout.
VJ got the team started with a lead-off hit.

The award winners for the game were VJ, Easton and Jaz, recognising their great efforts throughout the match.

It was an action-packed game with plenty of great pitching, strong efforts from both teams and fantastic support from the St Mary's crowd.

What a way to open the season! A great battle right to the end.
