After 12 months of meetings and navigating the legalities surrounding holding ‘Open Mats,’ at different gyms, and trust me there is a lot, we are proud to announce that the NSW Police BJJ Club Open Mats will officially return in 2025 as sanctioned events by the NSW Police Council of Sport (PCoS) as well as official seminars. This recognition marks a significant milestone in supporting the health and wellbeing of First Responders through Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu (BJJ).
Our commitment as a Club has always been to prioritise the safety, mental health, and physical well-being of First Responders through BJJ. With Open Mats and Seminars now recognised as official sanctioned events, we can provide enhanced support for First Responders. This includes current serving NSWPF personnel having all entitlements under the PCoS Injury Management Process at our endorsed events.
Open Mats are not simply “get-together and roll” sessions. They are structured opportunities to develop BJJ skills, enhance mental and physical fitness, and build camaraderie through BJJ, while also preparing for our competitions. This step forward solidifies BJJ as a critical tool for improving the safety, health, and mental resilience of First Responders.
The NSW Police BJJ Club Open Mats will be for NSW Police BJJ Club members / PCoS Members and affiliated clubs / gyms recognized by our Club. As stated our goal is ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our First Responders, that includes ensuring the gyms that host our events are safe and have the right people supporting us.
Thank you to everyone for being patient with us. We are committed to doing things the right way to ensure the safety and well-being of our members, providing the necessary support and working towards making BJJ a standard training practice for all First Responders.
Stay tuned for dates as we move forward on this exciting initiative along with many others for 2025.
