VCAUSA Batting Might Proves Too Strong for Mt Waverley Vets in Annual Clash
The VCAUSA has claimed bragging rights in their annual social fixture against the Mt Waverley Vets, securing a comprehensive victory built on a towering first-innings total at Princes Park (Carlton CC) yesterday.
Winning the toss and electing to bat first in perfect conditions, VCAUSA put on a dominant display, posting a formidable 6-209 off their allotted 40 overs. In reply, Mt Waverley fought bravely but were ultimately dismissed for 161 in the 34th over, falling 48 runs short of the target.
VCAUSA Top Order Cashes In
The VCAUSA innings was defined by steady partnerships and batters making the most of their starts. Openers Rob Pryde (31) and S. Rao (28) set a brilliant platform. Despite a sudden mid-innings wobble where Mt Waverleyโs bowlers forced a mini-collapseโsnapping up J. Wyatt (0), Pryde, and V. Kumar (0) to leave the hosts at 4-73โthe VCAUSA middle order responded emphatically.
The trio of K. De Alwis (35), Joyjit Ray (top scorer with a brilliant 41), and A. Jasani (35) took the game completely away from the Vets. All three battered with such authority, pushing the total beyond the 200-run mark.
For Mt Waverley, the bowlers toiled hard on a batting-friendly deck. M. Boyle (1-25), Shreyank (1-28), and P. Woodhouse (1-23) were the pick of the attack, managing to find breakthroughs during that crucial middle-over period.
Early Wickets Derail the Vets' Chase
Facing a daunting required run rate, Mt Waverleyโs chase got off to a disastrous start. VCAUSA opening bowlers Luke Edwards and Srinivas Sundar struck immediately, removing openers Peter (1) and David (5) to leave the Vets reeling at 2-6.
Madhavan was the shining light for the visitors. He anchored the innings with a patient and defiant 40 before retiring. He found solid support from Darren Mattingley (18) and Woody (29), who briefly threatened to make the chase interesting with some middle-order counter-attacking.
However, VCAUSA's bowling depth proved too much. Ahil was the chief destroyer in the latter half of the innings, tearing through the Mt Waverley lower order. He claimed the vital wickets of Sudarshan, Woody, and Shreyank, wrapping up the tail with a devastatingly effective spell.
Joyjit Ray backed up his heroics with the bat by picking up a key wicket, while Mani and S. Rao also chipped in with the ball to ensure Mt Waverley never truly broke the shackles, eventually restricting them to 161.
