MATCH RULES
1. A maximum of 4 players on court at all times.
2. Matches will be timed to 20 minutes in length. Scoring is rally point (a point on every serve). Matches are played as sets to 21 and must be won by 2 points. A second set is played if time permits. A score to 15 pts counts as a set.
3. If the ball touches the line it is deemed ‘IN’.
4. Serves are performed anywhere behind the red baseline. For players struggling in the wind, and at the umpires' discretion, it is permitted for the player to take a step inside the court to serve.
5. Player Rotations - Players rotate clockwise one position around the court when your team wins the serve back from your opposition.
6. If a player blocking touches the ball on the block, it is not counted as the first touch. The blocker may play the ball off his/her own block.
7. Players may not block or attack a ball on the serve, the ball must drop below the height of the net before being played back to the other side.
8. Players may play the ball off any part of their body, including feet.
9. Players may not touch the ball twice in a row (with the exception when the first contact is a block).
10. Players may not touch the net at any time during play. A player may cross under the net without violation, as long as they do not touch anyone on the other team or interfere with them playing the ball or make contact with the net. A player is then allowed to return to their own side and play continues.
11. Unlimited serves per player. A serve that clips the net is allowed. There are no fault serves.
12. Teams will change sides after every 7 points. this is to ensure neither team, in sunny or windy conditions, control a side of the court offers an advantage.
13. Technical aspects of the game will be refereed quite loosely – this competition is about participation and fun.
14. The umpire’s decision is final.
15. In case of a dispute, refer to Rule #13 and #14. We look forward to seeing you on the beach!

No Republica Beach Volley tonight – Tuesday 24th of Feb – Turns out I am afraid…

I am a little disappointed by the BOM’s “Storm of the Century” with between 40 and 70mm or rain. We were supposed to get 1mm of rain per minute! I was so excited!

We trained on the beach this morning and it was glorious! Such a perfect orange and purple sunrise. Golly, I hate getting up in the morning, but I adore it when I’m up.

To be honest, I can hear the thunder rumbling in the distance. There is a monster coming at us. The big question is how long will it last and will the second coming hit us as predicted right on Beach Volleyball time?

I think it will be too close to call, so we have decided to err on the side of dry and have the night off.

So, no Republica Beach Volley tonight – Tuesday 24th of Feb.

We will be back on the beach tomorrow and Thursday.

No Republica 4s tonight – Wednesday 11th of Feb

Arrgh!

This one is so hard to pick! The apps all say there is a fish gut full
of rain coming!

It’s not on the radar, but there are glimpses or rain, hints and
allegations of what is to come.

Am I squinting too hard at the screen and hunting for clues to back up
the forecast?

Gosh.

Sigh.

We are going to have the night off. The forecasts are too compelling to
ignore.

Wishing you all the driest in Wednesday evening attire.

We will be back tomorrow (that’s Thursday for those playing along at
home…).

No Republica Beach Volleyball tonight – Wednesday 26th of November.

Hi friends.

Today’s weather was forecast to be “not fun to be outside”, with gusts of “What the f@&% you doing? get back on the couch you fool” (these are official classifications from the BOM), and the forecast seems to be quite accurate so far.

Currently the wind in st Kilda is 67kms gusting to 82kms, and we usually want to max out around 35kms. The wind is supposed to drop this evening, but so is the temperature. Sounds like a recipe for some serious couch time to me.

There is no Republica Beach Volleyball this evening – Wednesday 26th of November. We will be back on the sand tomorrow night and again on Friday for the Charity event.

Chat soon.

No Republica Social 4’s beach volleyball on this evening (Tuesday 11th of November). Sad face.

I have this theory that if you spin around in a circle too fast and then stop suddenly, then your clothes will keep spinning and you will end up wearing them backwards. I think this is happening with the world at the moment and the world is spinning too fast and we have caught up to Autumn on the other side of the planet. Dusseldorf in Germany (a country known for its incredibly warm summers and winters) is actually warmer than here right now and we are 20 days off the start of summer.

Anyhoo, enough ramblings from me. The weather is awful today and will not get any better for this evening, so there is no Republica Social 4’s beach volleyball on this evening (Tuesday 11th of November). We will be there in shorts and a t-shirt tomorrow and Thursday.

I hope you manage to stay warm and dry today. I am refusing to leave the house again today. I hope my little girl enjoys the sleepover at child care.

p.s. I’m kidding, there is no sleepovers at Child care. I will go and get her later on this afternoon.

Volleyball tonight? Wind says no.

Ah man!

Maud is super bummed that we are cancelling tonight. She rocked it last night and was so excited to get back out on the sands tonight. Sadly, the wind was also excited to get to the beach and is now a little too strong for us to play in. So, Republica Beach Volleyball is cancelled for this evening, Wednesday 8th of October.

We will be back tomorrow as usual!

We don’t like playing in wind above 30kms, and usually cancel if it gets above 40kms. Currently it’s sitting on 43kms, gusting to 61kms. It may go up, it may go down, but we need to make a call by 3pm so that Republica can sort their staff out. Apparently, there are rules about how you need to treat people these days… (Our refs are the best, so we treat them amazingly all the time).

I use the Observations page on the Bom for St Kilda and find it’s usually pretty accurate.

Looking forward to seeing you all tomorrow or next week.

Yours in volleyball.

No Beach Volleyball tonight – Thursday 13th of Feb

It’s hot and It’s excessively windy, but later on it’s gonna be cold and wet. Neither of these are conducive to playing beach volleyball so we are not going to be out on the beach tonight playing.

We have the Vic Open on this weekend with the finals on the sands where we usually play. Sunday from 10-4pm. Come along and watch the pro’s play.

Enjoy your weekend and see you all next week.
