The week that was - On the Green!

It’s been another week of sunshine, good company and plenty of bowls saw the Green at St Helens Bowls & Community Club buzzing with activity. This week we welcoming Di & Lindsay H and Di S back to the Green after time away.

Tuesday was a cracker with clear skies and a lovely 18 degrees made for perfect conditions. 20 players took to the Green. After 2 competitive games, Tony P & Ray came away with the chocolates!

And just when everyone thought the best part of the afternoon was over, along came Di H with her delicious afternoon tea! Thank you, Di, because we all know that nothing goes better with Social Bowls than a cuppa and something tasty between games.

Thursday turned it up another notch, with sunny skies, 19 degrees and an impressive 22 players enjoying the action. We were delighted to welcome new member Garry S to the Club, along with Sammy and Pete from Scamander and Wendy from Rosebery. Plenty of visitors, plenty of laughs and plenty of bowls making their way down the Green! Liz, Spanner & Dave proved too good on the day, taking home the win.

Saturday wrapped up the week with plenty of sunshine and 16 degrees. 14 bowlers headed out onto the Green for another afternoon of Social Bowls, and it was lovely to welcome Wendy back for her second visit. Ian B, Steve & Bill had their bowls behaving beautifully, finishing the day as our winners. A great way to round out another week of bowls!

As for the Lucky Number Jackpot…It is proving to be one stubborn little jackpot! Still not won and still waiting for someone to get lucky. Maybe next week will finally be the week?

3 days of bowls, plenty of visitors, delicious afternoon tea and lots of laughs. Now that's a pretty good week on the Green!

Bring on the next one!

The week that was – On the Green!

Well, spring has definitely sprung… and has brought a little bit of wind with it! There were plenty of breezy moments on the green this week, but that didn’t stop our bowlers from getting out there and enjoying the days!

Tuesday was certainly a windy one, with 15 social bowlers hitting the green, including visitors Pete & Rosco from Scamander Bowls Club. Congratulations to John V & Rosco, who took out the honours for the day!

Thursday brought us a bit of everything! It was windy, then showery, then finally sunny! 12 bowlers braved the ever changing conditions, with Tony P, Liz & Ian S coming away as the winners. There was even one wrong bias! But who? We’re not telling! 🤫

The Lucky Number Jackpot is still proving elusive and has now climbed to a very tempting $300!

Unfortunately, Saturday’s rain had the final say, and Social Bowls was cancelled.

But never fear… There’s another week ahead and, hopefully, plenty of sunshine and laughter!

See you all on the Green again this week!

The week that was – on the Green!

Well, there was a bit happening on the Green this week.

Tuesday saw the crew from Berry Bowling Systems at the Club, giving our new Green a good look-over and making a few adjustments to get it playing as it should. Once the crew had packed up, Bill & Tony P were straight onto installing the lines. A big THANK YOU to Bill & Tony for all your hard work - The Green is looking great!

Thursday turned on a cracker of a day - Sunny, calm and just about perfect for bowls! We had 22 players hit the Green, including five visitors from Scamander - Grant, Sammy, Dave, Rosco & Paul. Great to have you along! The winners on the day were Tim, Jane & Paul! Well played, team! The jackpot continues to grow - Will it be won this week?

Then it was all systems go on Saturday for our “Spring into Spring” Pairs Medley Carnival. It was a great day! Plenty of great bowls, plenty of laughs and, as always, good company both on and off the Green. Thank you to Liz & the catering team for the yummy food! Congratulations to our winners, Daniel Walsh & Wayne Churchill (Lilydale/Bridport)! And because you don't necessarily have to win to walk away happy… our “Lucky Losers” were Sammy & Grant, and Valerie & Kerrie!

All the action wasn't just at St Helens Bowls Club - Four of our Pelican Juniors (and Dan C!) packed their families and bowls bags, and headed off to Exeter Bowls Club for the B Grade Farmers Day. Izzy, Sophie, Caitlyn & Dan came away with a win in the first game. The second game was a loss but what a game it was! It went right down to the very last bowl…talk about keeping everyone on the edge of their seats! Meanwhile, Lola, teamed with Kai (Mum), Neva & Derrick, drew their first game before powering home with a win in their second game, finishing a fantastic 5th place! But it wasn’t all about the bowls. The Juniors had a ball meeting new people, enjoying the friendly atmosphere and most importantly…really enjoying the lunch!

A massive thank you to everyone who played, helped out, cheered from the sidelines and generally contributed to another great week at the Club.

Bring on next week!

And while were we having a great day at our carnival in St Helens, our Pelican Chicks and their novice parents were flying high at the Exeter B Grade carnival. There’s no stopping them! What wonderful ambassadors they are for our club as well as being our future.
Thanks to Exeter for looking after them so well (they raved about the lunch!) and for the great feedback.

The week that was - On the Green!

It was all about Social Bowls at St Helens Bowls & Community club this week - fun, friendship and plenty of laughs on the Green!

Tuesday saw light showers before bowls, but thankfully the sun came out for play! We had 13 players, with Steve & Ray taking out the win! A big thank you to Georgia for coming along and joining us!

Thursday was an overcast 16°C day and provided perfect bowls weather, with 14 players enjoying the afternoon. Jacqui & Ross were our winners! Thanks for joining us, Ross & Grant from Scamander - always great to have you at our club!

Saturday had the pick of the weather - Fine, clear skies and 16°C made for a beautiful day of bowls. With 16 players, playing 2-4-2 format, it was Bill & Valerie who won the day!

The Jackpot wasn't won again this week — so it rolls on! Congratulations to Tony W, who pocketed the $25 lucky number prize!

Just a reminder - Our Green is closed this Tuesday while work is being carried out, so there’ll be no Social Bowls. But don’t worry… we’ll be back on the Green Thursday!

The week that was - On the Green!

On Tuesday we were treated to fine, sunny weather for Social Bowls, with 16 bowlers hitting the green. Congratulations to Bill & Ae, who took out the day! The Player Jackpot is proving a little elusive...once again, it wasn’t won! However, Ray did take home the $25 Lucky Number prize!

Thursday was another beautiful day for bowls, with clear skies and a very welcome 18 degrees! A fantastic 21 bowlers joined us, with Bill & Grant claiming the win for the day. And you guessed it — the Player Jackpot STILL wasn’t won! Maybe next week (fingers crossed)!

A big welcome and thank you to our visitors who joined us on Thursday: Grant, Dave, Pete & Sammy from Scamander, and Phil & Sandy from Hobart. It was great to have you on the green!

The second day on the Terry Gowling Memorial Skins Competition was held on Saturday with the final being player between Bill, Jane, Tony & Stephen. The competition was hard fought and came down to the very last bowl - with Bill victorious! Thanks for letting me take the photo Bill!

Over the last couple of weeks we have rolled out our new team uniform...How fantastic do our new tops look!

Well done to everyone who came along and made it another great week at the club. See you on the greens Tuesday, Thursday & Saturday this week for Social Bowls!

FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP FOR THE YEAR DONE AND DUSTED
TERRY GOWLING MEMORIAL WINTER SKINS 2026 was won by Bill Napier.
After two solid days of friendly rivalry and some sensational bowls, the championship came down to the same final four as last year: Stephen Brooks (21 pts), Jane Pickett (17 pts), Bill Napier (17 pts) and Tony Pickett (22pts). Spanner was the first out then Tony, and it came down to one bowl each for the decider ..... Bill's bowl was better than Jane's. Congratulations Bill.

BREAK O DAY JUNIOR BOWLERS ARE BREAKING BOUNDARIES!
HELP THEM TO FLY HIGH!

Two of our Junior bowlers have made the Under 18 State side, travelling to represent Tassie at the Nationals in Perth, Western Australia in October. Let's show them our support!

We are incredibly proud to announce that Izzy & Sophie have been selected to represent Tasmania in the State Under 18 team, competing at the Australian Under 18 Championships in Perth, Western Australia, this October.

This is a fantastic achievement and a wonderful opportunity for both girls to represent Tasmania, Break O'Day and St Helens Bowls Club on the national stage.

Izzy, Sophie & their families will also incur significant personal expenses, including meals not provided, incidental costs, and travel to attend training sessions throughout Tasmania in the lead-up to the championships. A parent is also required to accompany each player to The Nationals, which adds further costs.

Money raised at this Trivia night will go into the Junior fund to support our State & Northern representative players.

This is an incredible opportunity for Izzy & Sophie and they look forward to your support!
