Matt has had an impressive season competing in various events through the past 12 months, His approach to every training session with enthusiasm and focus shows a genuine desire to improve.

🌟 UAA INDIGENOUS TALENT ID DAY WRAP UP 🌟

More than 80 Indigenous students from 18 local high schools registered to attend the South West Sydney Academy of Sport's annual Indigenous Talent Identification Day at Minto Indoor Sports Centre on Friday 24 July. The event brought together young people from across the region to showcase their athletic ability, experience a variety of sports and take the first steps towards potential high-performance sporting pathways.

Made possible through the generous support of Underwriting Agencies Australia (UAA) and Western Sydney University, the event provided young Indigenous athletes with the opportunity to test their physical capabilities, experience a variety of sports and demonstrate their natural talent in a fun and supportive environment.

Students participated in Indigenous Games run by the Office Of sport, as well test their skills in AFL, Basketball, Netball, Rugby and Soccer, encouraging them to explore new sports while building confidence and teamwork.

The initiative aims to identify local talented indigenous athletes and connect them with development opportunities that can support their future sporting aspirations.

Students attending on the day also got to hear from Wests Tigers NRLW star Leah Ollerton and SWSAS Alumni Hurdler and Sprinter Brodee Mate in a Q&A discussion.

🌟Future Champion - Eli-Jethro Stoppel Trains in South Korea! 🌟

Eli recently spent three weeks in South Korea, where he trained with the Samsung Pro Team and Taesung High School as part of an intensive international training camp.

While in Korea he also competed at the 2026 Chuncheon Korea Open, delivering an outstanding performance. In the round of 16 Eli faced an Aussie winning and moving to the quarterfinals where he defeated a previous World Champion from Kazakhstan before progressing to the semi finals, where he earned a bronze medal after a hard-fought match against Tunisia also a former World Championship medallist!

Congratulations to Eli on an incredible international campaign and a fantastic achievement representing Australia on the world stage.

🚴 2026 UCI BMX Racing World Championships – Challenge Class Results 🌏

Our South West Sydney Academy of Sport BMX athletes continued to impress on the world stage, taking on the world's best at the 2026 UCI BMX Racing World Championships.

👏 Challenge Class Results:

🔥 Mason Thorn
Boys 16 – 13th Overall
Recorded moto finishes of 2nd, 3rd and 1st to progress to the Round of 16. Finished 3rd in the Round of 16 to advance to the Quarter Final. Narrowly missed a Semi Final berth after finishing 4th in his Quarter Final, securing an outstanding Top 13 finish in the world.

🔥 Brody Willmott
Boys 14 – 24th Overall
Produced consistent moto performances of 2nd, 2nd and 1st to qualify for the Round of 16. Advanced to the Quarter Final, finishing among the Top 24 riders in the world.

💪 Sienna Biffin
Girls 15 – 34th Overall
Claimed a 1st place moto finish before progressing to the Round of 16. Finished her World Championship campaign among the Top 34 riders in the world.

💪 Ryder Nicholson
Men 17–24 – 82nd Overall
Competed strongly in a highly competitive field, recording moto finishes of 4th, 6th and 6th while proudly representing Australia on the world stage.

💥 Hayne Dawson (SWSAS Coach)
Men 17–24 – 27th Overall
• Opened his campaign with a 1st place moto victory, followed by a 3rd place to qualify for the Round of 16.
• Advanced to the Quarter Final to finish 27th overall against a world-class field.

💥 Jessica Galeano (SWSAS Coach)
Women 25–29 (Women 25–34) – 20th Overall (21st Combined)
Competed strongly in a highly competitive international field, recording moto finishes of 4th, 6th and 4th. Finished 20th in the Women 25–29 category (21st overall across the combined Women 25–34 field).

Congratulations to all our riders on their outstanding performances representing Australia and the South West Sydney Academy of Sport. To compete at a UCI BMX World Championships and finish among the world's best is a fantastic achievement, and we couldn't be prouder of your efforts.

South West Sydney Indigenous Talent Identification Day 2026 🖤💛❤️

What an incredible day celebrating culture, community and the power of sport at our South West Sydney Indigenous Talent Identification Day.

A huge thank you to all the young participants, families, schools, coaches and volunteers who made the day such a memorable success. It was fantastic to see so many young people embracing new sporting opportunities while connecting through culture.

🚴 2026 UCI BMX Racing World Championships – Cruiser Results 🌏

South West Sydney Academy of Sport BMX riders took on the world's best on Wednesday in the Cruiser classes, proudly representing Australia on the international stage.

👍Luke Morris - 15 & 16 Cruiser Boys – 16th Overall
Progressed through the moto rounds and into the finals before finishing 4th in the Quarter Final sending him into the Semi's where he took a fall unfortunately ending what was a promising campaign.

💪 Maddison McCulloch - 15 & 16 Cruiser Girls – 20th Overall
After consistent moto performances, she Advanced to the Quarter Final where she unfortunately came off her bike ending her run.

🔥 Brody Willmott - 13 & 14 Cruiser Boys – 21st Overall
Impressive Moto round results, earnt his place in the finals and narrowly missing a Quarter Final berth.

🌟 Theodore Lorking - 13 & 14 Cruiser Boys – 54th Overall
Pulled off a 3rd in his first heat, tough competition prevented him moving through to the finals.

🌟 Locky Schwartz - 13 & 14 Cruiser Boys – 56th Overall
Consistent moto results, narrowly missing progression through to the finals.

💥 Hayne Dawson (SWSAS Coach) - 17–24 Cruiser Men – 30th Overall
Progressed through the motos to the finals, showcasing his talent against an exceptionally strong international field and narrowly missing the Quarterfinals

Congratulations to all our riders for representing Australia and the South West Sydney Academy of Sport with pride on the world stage. Every race at a World Championship provides invaluable experience and is another step towards future success.

The Glasgow 2026 Commonwealth Games begin tomorrow, and South West Sydney Academy of Sport is proud to see two alumni representing Tonga in Glasgow. 🇹

🏐 Jacqua Pori-Makea Simpson – Head Netball Coach, Tonga
💚 Van Nguyen – Netball Physiotherapist, Tonga

Their selection is a wonderful achievement and highlights the impact South West Sydney Academy of Sport alumni continue to make on the international stage. As members of Tonga's netball team, they'll play an important role in supporting their athletes throughout the Games.
