BRYC Sailing Report Tuesday the 4th of May 2021
Tony came down to the the bay
To be sociable and say g'day
In his back he pulled a muscle
Unloading wood was a tussle
I'll leave you guys now, I can't stay
Don's boat gave up the ghost
The sails flapped like sheets on a post
He said this is no fun
To fail in race one
It sails like a piece of cold toast.
Malcolm leaned left and right in the rain
To get his boat to go like a train
But try as he might
He wont get to skite
For line honours were just in vain
Chris sailed a bloody good race
For it was Dave P he tried to out pace
In race 2 he came first
Down wind with a burst
Of westerly breeze in his face
Kevin E sailed double O seven
These light winds are just not like heaven
Let's break early for lunch
For I've got a hunch
That my sandwiches are t-sauce and devon
Kevin W was having a fit
This light wind just makes you spit
And to top it all off
The rain's given me a cough
And now my boat's was going like s**t
Ted had his wet weather gear
From head to toe no rain did adhere
But to cover his transmitter
Was a plastic bag, what a s**tter
It's enough to bring a man to a tear.
Dave P sailed his boat like an ace
One, two and three did he place
He used all his tricks
To get his score to just six
Now we cant wipe the smile from his face
Hooroo
Tom
And now Dave P's proper report
Hi keen sailors,
Eight skippers with boats & 1 without turned up to the grey overcast skies.
We delayed to await the consensus "do we sail?".. finally yes... no rain yet, so a course was set for the light westerly that changed to a NW breeze whilst getting the boats ready requiring a course reset and the dreaded additional middle buoy. 😉
The start was positioned near the wharf for those of multi, fixed and poor vision then to the middle buoy which was always taken to port (@ the start and finish only) before then travelling to the bottom mark beginning the std Olympic, triangle, return, triangle with last wing mark to the middle buoy with a downwind finish... all became clear as the racing progressed.
1st rescue was for #16 as his receiver came unplugged at the top mark, 1st leg of the 1st race.
Sorted... we managed 3 races before the breeze disappeared calling for an early lunch... then the drizzle started so we called it quits.
Race 1 scratch
#6 started from the port side, although the starboard end was favoured but found the breeze out there allowing for plenty of momentum to go behind the fleet and sail into the lead covering the fleet to the middle mark and led the way.
Handicaps of +20secs applied to 1st 3 finishers, middle 2 stayed on scratch and last 3 -15secs.
Race 2
#231 managed to hold the lead from his scratch start, but the 3 +20sec boats #6, #007 & #14 worked their through the fleet to nearly catch #23.
Race 3
This race was made a bit trickier with a fluctuating breeze and the running current catching a few out, but the top 3 craft managed to again work their way through the fleet finishing strongly.
The craft were all travelling very fast as the apparent wind had all the telltales flowing constantly...
Well not really... damp sails... 😆
Just made it harder to detect what the sails were doing.
Results with xtra statistics 😎 starting h'caps for the 4th race, if it had proceeded.
Results 3 races No drops
1st #6 Dave P 6pts final h'cap +60secs
2nd #231 Chris L 10pts final h'cap +20secs
3rd #007 Kevin E 11pts final hcap +40secs
4th #19 Tom P 12pts final h'cap +5secs
5th #14 Malcom G 13pts final h'cap +5secs
6th #180 Kevin W 17pts final h'cap -10secs
7th #03 Ted M 19pts final h'cap -30secs

Cheers
Dave
