HEADS UP: Big news at the foot of the Blue Mountains: Camp Yarramundi has just received development approval for a major redevelopment designed so kids and families of all abilities can genuinely take part in outdoor adventure, not watch from the sidelines.

Cox Architecture’s plan (for The Y NSW) puts accessibility at the centre, with “every activity, trail and cabin” designed from the outset to remove barriers and support participation.
Here’s what’s coming:
• Expanded accommodation for around 400 students, plus upgraded recreation and dining facilities.
• A new multipurpose building with flexible spaces for community organisations, wellness programs and team-building retreats.
• Thoughtful site design: raised boardwalks, native landscaping and materials intended to reduce ecological impact, all set among rivers and forest.
• A big capacity lift overall (from 260 to 466 guests), including six new architect-designed lodges and upgraded cabins to contemporary accessibility standards.
• More inclusive adventure infrastructure (including ropes courses, swings, climbing/abseiling and team challenge zones) to help more people participate at the same time.
This is the kind of project that makes the Blue Mountains region shine: nature, learning, confidence-building—and access that’s built in, not bolted on later.
If you’re a school, youth group, community organisation, or a family who’s been waiting for an outdoor camp that actually works for diverse needs, keep an eye on this. Construction is expected to start in the coming months, with reopening aiming for late 2027.
