"Interclub Blokart Regatta 14 and 15th Feb 2026. (Summary NEWC Vice Commodore- John Demeo)
With a forecast of two days peaking under 8 knots and mostly 5 knots, the outlook didn't look very promising.
Yet seven optimistic sailing enthusiasts turned out to see what the
weather would really do. This was also a great chance to check out
Matts newly acquired MyLaps transponder system.
Saturday was light, and with everyone registered and tagged, teams were allocated by the traditional "Hat" method. We made an early start as the wind was favourable in the morning. We managed to get only two quite fast races in before the wind eased off and became unsailable. After getting the scoring system setup, Matt joined us and started the system from his phone, on the run.
Sunday began early with some AC/DC psych-up music, and Peter doing solar repairs.
We enjoyed sustained 10 and 11 knots for quite a while, getting in 9more races to finish the regatta with 11 sailed and two abandoned. Nottoo bad for a rubbish forecast. Matt showed excellent pace, with Ken and John chasing him around looking to capitalize on any lulls or mistakes. James joined us for Sunday, filling in for Andrew and jumped up the placings with the change to carbon mast pieces. Highlights were mark rounding's four abreast, tightly contested starts and a fiercely fought race with four different leaders. Nigil H also turned up to race with some very competitive placings throughout the weekend.
The winner? Orange team defeated Blue team 121 to 135. And if you're not sure what that means, you should have been there!"
