Hi lovely people. It's been a while!

What a crazy time of year December is, on top of this constant humidity 🥵. Yick!!

So, a few things have happened/changed over the past couple of months and i thought it was time I provided an update.

I just passed my Diploma of Counselling and have enrolled into Uni for a further 3-4 years of study beginning early next year. On top of this, I will be moving to New Beith in 4 weeks time.

In regards to how this affects my business, I will still be running the Seniors Program every Wednesday, and still plan on training with my Springfield Lakes clients, it just means I can only do sessions in your home or in the park, and my timetable, availability, and prices will change in the New Year.

I will take on a few clients who live closer to my new home, whilst ensuring I have time to study and fulfill other commitments I have made.

Over the next 2 weeks I will be uploading some videos that will include a combination of Chair, Mat-Work, and standing Pilates exercises that are great for increasing functional movement, mobility, balance, strength, and stretching.

These are great exercises for Senior's, anyone who can't get on the ground, and those with injuries or who have lower back pain doing Mat-Work Pilates.

I hope you all have a Merry Xmas and a wonderful New Year. Thank you to every client I have had this year, every one of you have taught me something new, inspired me, and given me the motivation to continue running my business. Thank you. Xx💜🙏

Hi lovely humans.

It's been a while between posts! Study has been crazy this term, but the finishing line is now in sight 😅💃

I've been running the Seniors Program at the Springfield Lakes Community Centre for 5 weeks now. Meeting and working with the wonderful, brave, determined, and inspiring seniors in our community has been a very rewarding experience for me.

It's held every Wednesday from 9:30-10:30am at a cost of $5, which includes morning tea after the session. This provides a great opportunity to have a chat over a cuppa.

I can cater to all levels and capabilities in these sessions and everyone is welcome to just come on down on Wednesday. Just bring socks, water, towel, and a mat if you have one. I do have plenty of spares as well.

Enjoy your Sunday!

Happy Monday everyone! 😊

Today's topic highlights the importance and benefits of exercise for older adults.

Regular physical activity is extremely important for older adults to maintain optimal health, independence, and a good quality of life.

Sedentary behaviour can cause a significant decline in health, a loss of muscle mass & strength, joint stiffness, decreased balance, accelerated bone density loss, an increased risk of chronic disease, cancer, & stroke.

Regular exercise however, can reduce the risk of chronic disease, falls, fractures, increase life expectancy, improve flexibility & balance, increase/retain muscle mass & endurance levels, & relieve tension in muscles.

It promotes better cardiovascular health, improving functions of the heart, lungs & circulation, reduces the risk of obesity, type 2 diabetes, osteoporosis, & helps manage arthritis joint pain.

Mentally, exercise releases endorphins, a mood boosting chemical, reduces depression & anxiety, promotes better sleep & cognitive functions, which may help prevent dementia.

I'll be working with seniors over the next 3 months from October 4th in a Gentle Stretching Program at the Springfield Lakes Community Centre. I'm very excited about it.

I plan to incorporate a range of exercises that will be performed in different ways. This includes sitting on a chair, using light resistance bands & Pilates Rings, using a wall for support, standing up, or lying down.

Older adults exercising in a group session promotes connection and offers a supportive & safe environment around peers of a similar age, where you can have a good laugh.

For those who don't enjoy group classes, I offer a safe & supportive environment in my own personal Pilates sessions and can modify many exercises to suit your level & capabilities.

Thanks for reading and please message me anytime for further information.

Hi everybody.

Today i wanted to highlight the benefits of exercise for neurodiverse people.

Exercise offers a plethora of health benefits for everyone, however, its impact can be particularly significant for neurodiverse people because of their unique sensory & cognitive processing characteristics.

Neurodivergence encompasses conditions like autism, ADHD, dyslexia, & more. Many neurodiverse people experience heightened levels of anxiety, depression, and stress.

Exercise has been shown to release endorphins (mood boosters) and reduce cortisol (stress hormone), leading to a more stable and positive mental state.

People with conditions like ADHD often struggle with maintaining focus and attention. Engaging in regular exercise can improve cognitive function, including attention control and working memory, leading to better academic or professional performance.

Autism and related conditions often involve sensory sensitivities. Exercise can serve as a way to modulate sensory experiences by providing predictable and rhythmic stimuli, helping neurodiverse people manage sensory overload.

If you are neurodiverse, I offer a safe space to exercise and train, a judgement free zone where you are free to just be yourself. I've worked with kids and adults who are neurodiversive and/or disabled, with fabulous results and positive change.

Message me anytime.

Happy Sunday 🙂

I've attached next week's timetable, updated on the 19/10/23, for the week of 024/10/23 - 31/10/23.

I was lucky enough to be offered the wonderful opportunity to run a government funded Gentle Exercise for Senior's Program in the YMCA/ Springfield Lakes Community Centre in recognition of seniors month (October).

When I first opened my business, I had a hope that I would be able to work in retirement villages or nursing homes, as I knew our senior citizens often get neglected, forgotten, can become quite isolated & suffer chronic pain.

I think they are wonderful. They have so much wisdom and life experiences to share, and are often very cheeky and quirky. 😇😁

The program will commence on the 4th of October and is free throughout the month of October. It will be held every Wednesday at 9:30am right through until January. A $5 cost will be incurred for each session after October.

Tea, coffee, and morning tea will be provided after each session, which provides a great opportunity for mingling with other attendees.
I'll be staying behind after each class to have a chat and answer any questions.

I plan on incorporating low-impact, gentle exercises & light stretching with the aim of focusing on basic movement & mobility skills, improving balance, and decreasing muscle stiffness, soreness, and pain.

Further information about the program and the link to expressions of interest can be found on the YMCA Springfield Lakes page, and on their website.

I look so forward to starting.

Hello!

I've uploaded two new exercises performed with a foam roller, a cheap form of self-myofascial release (massage) for sore, stiff muscles, & painful trigger points or 'knots'.

When you foam roll you actually roll over & over the 'knot', essentially pumping fresh blood in & out of the area with each roll. Eventually, the knot is going to work itself open to where the pain is no longer there, or is greatly reduced.

Exercise 1. Upper Back Extension

Sitting or driving for long periods is detrimental to spine health. Poor posture, a stiff spine, tight upper back, shoulder & chest muscles, & weakness in postural muscles can lead to the development of back and neck pain.

This exercise improves thoracic spine extension and rotation & targets the myofascial structures of the upper back. It's important to stretch and strengthen postural muscles under guidance from a health professional.

* This exercise can be performed with the hands clasped together in front instead of behind the head if you have shoulder pain, and you can lay stretched over the roller for 20 seconds to increase the release.

Exercise 2. Piriformis Muscle Release

Bad posture can cause tightness or pain in the Piriformis, an external rotator of the hip that runs from the lower spine to the top of the thigh bone. If you find you have a twinge or ache in your lower back after a long day of sitting, it might be caused by a tight piriformis.

This exercise works to relax & loosen the irritated piriformis before using a tennis or trigger point ball to get deeper into the knot.

I explain the steps and techniques required in the video as I perform them both. I hope they help anyone struggling with upper or lower back, piriformis, or hip flexor pain.

Hi lovely humans. Today I wanted to touch on the topic of change.

We need to allow time and space for changes to take place in both the mind and body. Strengthening our mind and body muscles, and becoming fitter & healthier requires consistent effort over a span of time to ensure new ways of being have been cognitively processed.

Consistency is simply showing up for ourselves day after day. It helps us build a truly solid foundation that lasts the test of time.

Every goal or new step we achieve and master, no matter the size, through the practice of consistency, must be given the attention and celebration it so rightly deserves.

Once we have mastered the step we're on, only then can we move up, safe in the knowledge that the step below us is now stable & secure, built through our own hard work and efforts.

I'm a big fan of returning to lower steps at times, to reinforce the lessons learnt, to check in with myself and to see how far I've come. You can be your own inspiration every single day, instead of your own biggest critic.

Physical and mental health are intertwined. When we place unrealistically high expectations on ourselves, one bad day can lead to feelings of failure & dissapointment, & result in us giving up and throwing in the towel.

Over the past few years the most helpful thing I've learnt is that being a turtle, and making slow and steady progress is often the safest and most productive way to see results.

We all know who won the race, don't we! 🥇🐢🐇

Take your time, have patience, self-care on a daily basis, sit with those sh*tty feelings without judging yourself, and be kind to yourself. Rome wasn't built in a day, nor were the pyramids. One step at a time, it is enough.
