Anthony May, affectionately known as "Mayzie", began his football journey with Edwardstown Football Club in 1996 as a junior, quickly developing a lifelong love for both the game and the club.
Over his junior career, Mayzie played 99 games before making his senior debut at just 15 years of age.
Throughout the years, he has achieved countless accolades, including multiple Best and Fairest awards across different grades, a premiership winner and three Association Medals. However, his contribution to the club extends far beyond what he has achieved on the field.
When he's not pulling on the boots, you'll find him coaching, umpiring, timekeeping, assisting on the side lines, working in the canteen, selling raffle tickets, or helping wherever needed. If there's a job to be done, Mayzie is always willing to put his hand up for the club he loves.
Edwardstown Football Club has been incredibly fortunate to have such a dedicated person who truly embodies the values and spirit of our club.
His passion for the club has become a family affair. Over the years, he has brought his family into the Edwardstown community playing different roles, with his wife, sister, and two daughters all still proudly representing the club.
In recent times, Mayzie has faced his toughest challenge yet β battling with bowel cancer. Yet even between hospital appointments and chemotherapy treatments, he continues to lace up the boots and take the field, supported by the club he has given so much to, playing the game he loves.
This Saturday, Mayzie will achieve another remarkable milestone when he plays his 445th senior game, surpassing the long-standing club record of 444 senior games.
Congratulations, Mayzie. Your dedication, resilience, and commitment to Edwardstown Football Club are an inspiration to us all. We are proud to celebrate this incredible achievement with you.
