A Life Coach helps people who are currently experiencing a difference between their current state and what they would like their desired state to be. Normally they ha

ve been avoiding dealing with the situation, and have tried to resolve the issue themselves but have never been able to see things through to a solution. This is where a Life Coach can be invaluable and help the person follow a process to move to their desired state. In many cases, the issues they are experiencing and not dealing with may have been present for years! The issues people face in their life can be related to a whole range of different topics and in many cases are interrelated. What it is that they are passionate about? Are they following their passions, or do they feel trapped? Are they excited by life currently and what the future holds? What goals do they have for the short, medium, and long term? We then talk about what is working and what isn’t working and in many cases, the focus is on what isn’t working. Communication and Relationship challenges are two of the most common, which can have many causes. An individual can be stuck in a job or a career that no longer drives the passion within them. It can be that they have lost the spark in life and feel that they are existing rather than living. We help people get their passion back and overall enjoyment of life. We use different techniques including powerful questions, active listening, observation of body language, and the nuances of communication to fully understand what is happening, and where we are headed and develop a plan of how to get there.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO BE WHEN YOU GROW UP?

It is a fairly easy question to answer as a 5 year old because we have a limited term of reference and form our opinion based on our limited understanding of the world.

Fairly difficult for kids of 15,16 or 17 to work it out when it is amazing how many people in their 20's, 30's, 40' and even 50's who can't answer the question "What do you want to be when you grow up"?

Or quip I don't know what I want to be when I grow up.

But wouldn't it be beneficial to find out?

For most have either been a passenger on the bus that is their career or fell into the job or industry they are in.

And the older you get and the longer you spend in a role or industry that you hate, you start to transition to become Ken.

Who is Ken?

'Ken miserable'
'Ken unhappy'
'Ken frustrated'

HE TOP 5 CAUSES OF STRESS FOR BLOKES

We all logically know that things continue to change at an ever increasing pace and it feels like the number of balls and other things that we juggle continue to increase in number and weight.

And when we don't look to proactively manage our stressors, it leads to a sense of overwhelm and then we end up having to reactively manage the situation we are placed in. And normally requiring the intervention of health practitioners

So with prevention being better than a cure, below are the top 5 stressors for Blokes and would be interested if all agree or whether there is something else that should be on the list?

Most people will have seen the following graphic regarding the 4 stages of learning, but I was exposed to a different slant on it recently via The Influencer Project.

Fair to say in initial conversations regarding i Coach Blokes, everybody has said to me the concept and the book are both great initiatives and something that is very much needed.

But here is the rub. Everyone sees the value, but for someone else. Because seeing someone else is easier than looking in the mirror and reflecting.

So maybe you don't have any unresolved issues but know mates who do and who would benefit?

Which led me to reflect on the model of the burning building dilemma which is similar to the 4 stages of learning but is subtly different and comprises of

- I don't know what I don't know or living in BLISS (for as the saying goes, ignorance is bliss!!)
- I know that I don't know (there is a PROBLEM)
- I know but I don't do (stuck in a rut, autopilot which requires EFFORT)
- I know, I realise, I do (leading to resolution of the issue and MASTERY)

So take some time today to reflect on where you are currently at.
Do you not know?
Do you know that you don't know?
Do you know but don't do?
Or are you doing something about it?

So here we are.
Another Monday morning.
So ask yourself did you jump out of bed excited by what the day and the week ahead will bring?
Or did you wake up full of dread?
Hating what you do, your job, your boss or all of the above?
Everything else in life going well apart from work?

In coaching sessions I regularly start with a persons Why?
Why do they do what they do?
Why do they attach meaning to what they do?
Why is it important to them?
Why do they continue to do what they do?
Why wouldn't they go and do something else?

And what I have tended to find is those who are easily able to answer the above questions, know their Why and it is a passion they are driven to follow. They have a goal and strive every day to get closer to it

In a significant number of cases however, people struggle to answer the question and for many that means they are living life on auto pilot and just going with the flow and with no purpose

And I see your Why? as your heart, your passion and your drive without which are you are unlikely to be heading towards any form of goal or a goal at all!!

So if you are reading this and can't define your own Why, try giving it some thought and then reconciling whether what you are currently doing is either helping or hindering that?

As they say on Sesame St today is brought to you by the number 6.

And why you may be asking is 6 of significant relevance today?

Well it is now 6 working days since RUOK day and I would ask how many people have consciously done anything differently since?

For after the cup cakes, morning teas and presentations and potential upsurge in awareness and conversations, like a brief caffeine hit we likely go back to maintaining the status quo.

So for those empowered I would ask what have you done differently as a result of RUOK day to create a better environment, implemented something significant that sustainably changes employee well being or committed to a course of action that will change things for the better in the future?

If you have, well done and congrats, for I suspect you will be in the minority and for most it will be back to the status quo until next year for the following article makes some sobering reading.

And my final reference to the number 6 is that is the number of males who take their own lives in Australia every day.

And if we don't think that is a good enough reason to DO something differently, think of the other 135 people who are likely impacted as a result of each su***de.

So if you have the ability to implement change, what are you waiting for and today ask yourself R U REALLY OK?
