Hoju Martial Arts Hoju Martial Arts is a full-time facility offering training and development for all ages.

Specialising in early development, Hoju combines the benefits of Martial Arts with child development psychology research to provide the highest standards available. We at Hoju uphold and teach our students strong values, and focus our teachings on both self-defense protection, and Martial Arts as a sport. Through a core system of Martial Arts we develop physical skills; specialising in early child

hood development, mental focus and discipline, and the human spirit; especially determination and mutual respect. Our Martial Art includes several elements from different styles to assist in creating an effective system of self defense. There is also a Haidong Gumdo (Korean Sword) program available to Hoju Martial Arts members. We offer sports/competition Taekwondo, and are proud to say that we have successfully seen 11 of our students reach Australian representative teams.

We have just returned from a huge weekend at the Australian Taekwondo National Championships in Adelaide!

We had athletes representing Tassie across both Poomsae and Sparring divisions and all three days of competition. Our team of eight came away with 19 medals (🥇x 3, 🥈x 7, 🥉x 9). Well done everyone!

Last weekend, 9 of our Hoju athletes competed at the South Coast Open Taekwondo Championships. We had an incredible two days coming away with 17🥇, 7🥈, and 3🥉 across Sparring, Poomsae, and Power Kick divisions!

We were awarded the most successful Poomsae club, and ranked second overall across the weekend. Congratulations to Martial Arts Spirit HQ for taking out the best overall club 🙌🏼

This weekend Seth competed at the Australian Taekwondo Cadet Selection event for the Cadet World Championships. After an incredible day with four matches, Seth came away from his big division with an exceptionally well earned silver medal and invitation for the National Cadet Training Camp. We have just finished an amazing weekend of sparring development with some very special visitors to Launceston!

Dongmin Cha, Olympic champion and World Championship medallist, led sessions on high level skill work and scenario play 🌟 We were joined by Melbourne Taekwondo Centre - Bayside athletes, Master Andrew Rozinszky and Master Harry Saltis, as well as Ms Bianca Scurry who ran a great educational workshop. Finally we had our Southern friends from Eagling's Martial Arts & Fitness come and visit for the weekend 🥋

What a month! After a quick pit stop back home after the South Coast Open, we took a team of 8 athletes to the Gold Coast Open for a jam packed weekend. Our small team came away with
5 x 🥇
4 x 🥈
7 x 🥉
And we ranked 15th of 88 clubs on the overall tally!

A massive thank you to Carlos Lakerdis for organising an incredible event, and all referees, judges, and officials. Most importantly, thank you to our families and team of extended coaching staff for their support and help over a very busy weekend!

This year, 7 of our athletes were selected to represent Tasmania at the Australian Taekwondo National Championships in Western Australia, across both Poomsae and Sparring divisions. Of those who were able to attend, we came away with:

We are incredibly grateful to Australian Taekwondo Western Australia, Carlos Lakerdis, Michael McKnight, Anne Marie Spirit Taekwondo - Brookvale, the referees, and the judges - including our very own Master Boag, for making the event happen and run smoothly. We would also like to thank our instructors, coaches, and team mates for helping prepare our athletes for a great weekend!

Master Josh was also awarded the Gold Coast Open Outstanding Coach Award 2023 as voted by officials, in recognition of his care for athletes and coaching integrity 👏🏼

Look at these amazing students doing so well at trying something new! We have had a very busy week at Goulburn Street Primary School in Hobart and Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic School in Devonport. We are very excited about another action packed week starting Monday! 😄
